The second round of County Championship matches.

The second round of County Championship matches starts today with some interesting looking ties.

Yorkshire vs Durham is potentially an excellent match with Hoggy and Harmy on opposite sides and the young guns of Rashid and Onions also in opposition. On paper Yorkshire probably appear slightly stronger with the batting of Younis and Rudolph backing up the old hands, but both are strong sides.

Surrey vs Hants

Warks vs Sussex

While in CC2 we have
Essex vs Glamorgan
Glouc vs Notts
Leics vs Somerset
Middlesex vs Northants

I see Yorkshire aren't playing Gillespie, probably decided the batting is strong enough and needed to strengthen the bowling by playing young Shahzad.

Durham 98-3 at lunch having elected to bat.

Warwickshire v Sussex.

Warwickshire 91/3, Westwood/Trott partnership looks good after the early wicket of new captain Maddy.

It's a league not a cup. It was more of a figure of speech.

Young Rashid from Yorkshire is currently pressing his case for early inclusion in the England team with 4 wickets before tea on the first day of the CC match vs Durham.

Rashid finished with 5-88, Durham taken up to 274 by Benkenstein's 86, and a sizeable ninth wicket partnership from Gibson (38) and Onions (24). Not sure what the pitch is like but we really need to sort out the batting, Muchall is too inconsistent to bat at 3 and Ben Harmison seems to be struggling in the first couple of games.

Well Sayers for Yorkshire is running away with things 8 runs of 87 balls, at this rate we will be treated to Geoffrey Boycott leaning out the window and shouting "Get a moove on lad"

I've heard of playing for a draw but thats pushing it a bit. Hopefully Harmy and Hoggard will get some more overs under their belts because they are both the type of bowlers that need plenty of bowling.
