I feel I'm stuck with nixon really. Jones is pants, read wont play even if he wants to, Davis is far to inexperienced and Prior doesnt offer much with bat or gloves to me. Problem being, if we insist on playing fredelo at 6 we must have a keeper who can bat and stop the collapse his wicket inevatbly starts.

Has Tim Ambrose forced himself into contention with his batting this year too? Admittedly his 251 no was when he was picked as a batsman rather than a keeper / batsman and to be honest I've not seen him keep wicket either - I'd welcome opinions on his glovework!

Moores has of course seen him already whilst at Sussex where he couldn't force his way into the team ahead of Prior.

When he moved to Warwickshire he forced his way in ahead of Frost, who by recollection wasn't a bad 'keeper himself. So I'd guess Ambrose is a pretty solid 'keeper and Sussex were a bit short-sighted in not picking him and playing Prior as a batsman.

Can't see Ambrose in an England shirt in the near future though.

Me neither, although has been on fine form so far, people on Bears radio were debating seriously whether to replace him with Sangakkara or not!

The clamour for Ambrose to play makes me laugh. The bloke has had a few decent innings, that's it. He's never shown anything else to take him close to recognition so why we should consider him on the back of a few good weeks is beyond me. He needs to make a proper case for his inclusion. Those performing consistently for the past few seasons should be well above him, Steven Davies included.

I rate Ambrose but wouldn't consider him as an England test candidate yet,he is a possible for about 2 years time if he continues to improve but i hope before then that Davies comes through and takes the role himself.

What clamour? If this thread has clamour for Ambrose's inclusion then I'm the King of Siam.

Warne giving us his opinion on the keeping dilemma

Another topic of interest for me is the England wicketkeeping spot. The whispers I’ve heard are that Matt Prior is going to get the nod, but he has hardly scored a run this season. More important, I don’t think his glovework is up to Test standard. It could cost you if he drops a couple of crucial players.

I’m not biased, but I think Nic Pothas should be picked. He can bat at No 6, he’s a decent keeper and a tough cricketer. Paul Nixon also brings a lot to the table, but he’d have to bat lower. If England want Andrew Flintoff to drop down to No 7, Pothas should be their man.
