No doubting that - he was never a test player really. He could have done a job in ODIs, but couldn't find any consistancy.

Now, if you're looking for rubbish averages - look no further than Gavin Hamilton...

True, you would be hard pressed to find players with worse averages.

Why not recall just about any players called up during the Illy years, they were all random selections mostly of players who were no where near test class.

He should have been in the England side years ago.

While he got no chances - players like D Pringle and Anthony McGrath di.

He did get a couple of goes, but like Nick Knight, his technique against pace ( Ambrose and Walsh) wasnt the best and I think a broken finger meant he never got any more goes.

Good stuff

Does make you think that of the batsmen, only one averages above 40 (and that was McGrath who got some cheap runs versus Zimbabwe)

Puts into perspective why I would end up picking Bell, Pietersen, Collingwood, Cook, Vaughan and Strauss - all of whom average over 40 - ahead of any of those guys.

As for bowlers, it would be interesting to look at how many wickets those guys have take, as Rikki Clarke (4 wickets against Bangladesh) does look very wrong at the top of that list!

Sorry Clarke shouldn't have been there as he is an all rounder. I wonder if Ormond is still waiting to hear from the selectors?

Thats a great point there FF, why drop a succesful player for a failure??

Regaeding our bowlers, we have the best pace attack around, why change it??? Going into the Lords test Harmi and Hoggard are in good form, Flintoffs getting there and even Plunketts looking good. All we need now is for Jones to get fit!

I love the fact Ramps thinks he was hard done by in terms of England, and yet he played 52 test matches averaging just 27!
