| FF I listened to that interview, and at no time did Flintoff deny that Vaughan had brought up the pedalo affair. Flintoff was on a damage limitation exorcise, he really could not have said much different, and over who picked up the cheque - Flintoff was prompted. That interview IMHO told us nothing that was going on in Flintoffs mind, I think one day this will surface again.

| I watched the Sky exclusive interview with Flintoff during the tea break..Now I must admit I have not seen a great many interviews with him, but I thought he did a better job of it then that Vaughan interview. He made exactly the right noises. Said exactly the right things. Yes, they had a meal over this "storm-in-a-tea-cup"...what I wouldn't have given to have been a fly on the wall...Why? Well, over these 2 comments by Flintoff: Quote:

Not everyone likes holding grudges. I play the game, I have had stand up rows with team mates (once very publicly on the pitch - we nearly had a fight in the outfield!!) we apologise and have a drink after the game. Despite having left the club (because of my move South West) I am still friends with all the guys in the team. Yes, international cricket is different, but people aren't I am certain that Flintoff is bigger than this, yes he would have been upset, but if he is the guy I think he is, he will accept the apology of a mate, and play as well as he always has. | Vaughan should go now. I agree with Wanderer on this one, he's political animal and all of what he said was designed to make sure Flintoff NEVER captains England again. Strauss wont be captain with his current form and so Vaughan has killed off his competitiors, whilst smilingly shaking thier hands. Flintoff won't really be able to play in the same team after this (so effectively becomes either a one day player if Vaughan loses ODI or a player in the wilderness unless he say's "it's him or me"), and the future captain will be Cook (in a few years time) Team spirit in the England dressing probably consists of swearing and accusations at the moment. If only they were like the Aussies, and just 'got on with the job'

| Jenko, Feel your post is way over the top, and feel that this incident will be a non-story in 2 weeks time. Have you ever said something stupid about a mate, and it got out? Do you still speak to them? I do, so why should be any different Flintoff and Vaughan go back a long way. I really can't see this coming between any of the team. Storm in a tea cup, and sacking Vaughan would be a massive over-reaction. If he wins this game he will be the most successful England captain ever, would you really want to sack him now? |

In that tea-time interview, Flintoff was asked what will happen now when Vaughan tosses him the ball in simmering heat...Flintoff answered: ..."he knows what to expect from me, and I know what to expect from him"... I still think there's more there... Yes, they have been friends for a while, but even the best of friends grow apart sometimes. All it takes is one little incident. Hopefully (for the sake of English cricket) they REALLY put this behind them and move on. |

Flintoff is the obvious choice if Vaughan is injured, with Moores being a new coach, Vaughan was just minding his back. FF-Vaughan was not saying something stupid about a mate which got out, he did it on the record, knowing full well the fuss it would cause, and with that he acheaved what he set out to do - keep the pedalo incident simmering ( beit on the back burner). They did not get on in Australia, Flintoff did not want Vaughan's advice, and that in turn soured Vaughan. Flintoff i believe had attitude, but Vaughan should not have been in his shadow.
