I would say the two go hand in hand. Flintoff wants to play for England, and play well for his county and his team mates, that's how he is. If Vaughan is in the team, and leading it, Flintoff will perform as he always does.

I remeber the england set up of the psat (Gower, and Gooch)

Gower was the best player. What happened to him in the set up? like Fred, he captained the side, failed and got 'left out ' .
Gooch wouldn't play with him, and history tells the rest.

Doesn't this 'flintoff vaughan ' sound all so familiar?

Those were very different times.

Back then there were so many egos and it was all very much based on the senior-pro versus the new guy. Your team mate was your competitor and not the opposition. You only have to read the diaries of a guy like Thorpe to see that when he first walked into the dressing room, as a young player, he was seen as a threat.

When he returned to hit a century against South Africa, he noticed a very different dressing room, one where you were part of Team England, and whether you were establishing yourself or an old-pro, the team backed you.

It used to be the same in County Cricket, with capped players getting special treatment, but those days have gone, thank goodness.

I really can't see that situation you talked about happening in this era.

This is a bit of a storm in a teacup IMO. Of course Flintoff will and absolutely should come back in the side. Just wonder if MV is using a tactic to get Fred going? I know my mate Ern won't agree but surely Fred can't captain the side again; nothing to do with his off field activities but as I have said before its simply way too much of a work load for anyone. Also like it or not MV is about to becomethe most successful England captain EVER. I am certain they will sort it out.
