| Agree Pie man, (you can call Flan man),
The fact is when Nasser took the England team on we were rated the worst Test team in the world. To take us to number two he (and Fletcher) had to make us difficult to beat. That was the first step in the process. But being difficult to beat, does not make you into a team capable of becoming the Number One Test team.
Once you have created a team that does not lose, you then need to working towards a team that wins more Tests than it draws and loses. This is the role that Vaughan took on, he inherited a team that could now compete with most Test teams, but the next step was winning series.
This is the process that the West Indies need to embark on, at the moment they are too brittle, they need more players like Chanderpaul, to ensure that games like the game at Durham are not lost. Once they have done that, then they need to start the next stage of the process, how do you turn draws into wins.
I cannot imagine that Ponting in his team talks would mention Drawing Tests, they set out to win. I cannot imagine that Vaughan in his team talk on the final day even mentioned the phrase "we mustn't lose this one", he would have mentioned quick wickets and a ensuring that they won 3-0. |
