Vaughan has resigned as one day captain but still wants to be in the team. That is just a crazy idea.
Bopara has a thigh injury so will miss out on the 20/20s and WI ODI series (if selected). This is Mascarenhas's chance. I hope it won't be Rikki Clarke.

Its very crazy, if he played he should have been skipper. I though the sole reason he "resigned" was because he wasnt worth a place in the team.

Yeah, he's long deserved a go. He's been one of the most consistant domestic one day players around for a while now.

We will get a chance to see him in action in the semi finals.

I think he could be a replacement for Flintoff
Average 23.31 with the bat high score 79
187 games 227 wickets at 24.15 econ 4.18 s/r 34.62

Compare his bowling figures to Sidebottom 137 games 139 wickets at 30.26 econ 4.26 s/r 42.61

So three fast bowlers, Mascarenhas, Collingwood and a spinner should be able to take care of the bowling.

What a shame Bopara is injured as he would be guaranteed a spot in the side,as for the all rounder slot will they go for experience like Mascharenhas or a youngster like Bresnan?

Be interesting to see what influence Moores has on the selection of the squad.

In the bowling i hope Sidebottom is picked too as he is as good as any one day bowler we have.

I think the England argument is probably around 3-4 years behind the Australian argument, which now basically has the Australian test squad as its one day squad.
We had our "War of the Roses" (S.Waugh v R.Ponting) around the Sydney Olympics. I hope you sought yours out prior to the London Olympics.

Vaughan's plans -

Vaughan has not called time on his international one-day career in the wake of the decision, but admitted that he did not expect to be included in the squad for the forthcoming Twenty20 internationals and three ODIs against West Indies which is due to be announced on Friday.

"I certainly don't expect to be picked on Friday because I think a new captain would find it very difficult captaining me a week after I've just captained him in a Test," he continued.

"I think he deserves a little bit of time getting his authority over to the team and working his method of captaincy out and if I was there I think it might be quite difficult for him.

"I think the best thing for the team is for me not to play for a while and if my body's fine and if I'm playing well then who's to say I won't come back into the one-day series, but I know I have to go away and play very, very well because my one-day record is not that good."
----
I suppose his salary will change just playing in one form of the game. I am sure he has had a say in who the next captain should be. I wonder if the new captain has already been told of his appointment so he can have his input on his team selection.

Cricinfo's squad -
Possible squad Alastair Cook, Matt Prior, Ian Bell, Kevin Pietersen, Paul Collingwood (capt), Owais Shah, Vikram Solanki, Alex Gidman, Michael Yardy, Stuart Broad, Ryan Sidebottom, James Anderson, Matthew Hoggard, Monty Panesar

I can't see a team with Hoggard, Sidebottom and Anderson in it if you also add Panesar. Three swing bowlers who can't bat. What is needed is -

Tremlett, Broad, Shreck - height
Anderson, Lewis, Sidebottom - swing
Jones, Mahmood, Plunkett - pace and reverse swing

combination. Some of these bowlers are out injured and others don't have enough experience.
