The Bradman of New Road

40,000 first-class runs for Graeme Hick - what a fantastic achievement!

Yes it is,just a shame he couldn't transfer his obvious ability onto the international stage.

True. I think one could probably make up a whole cricket side of players who do absolutely terrific on the first class scene, but fail when they make that one step up.

England have had a few of those over the years!!

I recall Glenn McGrath saying he had never bowled at a better batsman in the nets. Hick was batting against McGrath with one of those half width practise bats and middling everything.

Just shows, like Ramps he just didnt have the mental strength for test cricket, although he did average 40odd for a bit and get into the worlds top 10 in the mid 90's.

He was, though, a terrific ODI player, averaging 37 over 126 games.

Amazingly, only Jack Hobbs has scored more 100s than Hick in professional cricket in the history of the game - proof of his longevity and enduring class.

Piece analysing Hick's career

Bradman's name should never be uttered in the same breath as lower light "Hick"
Hick and Grieg go your hardest.
But please not the "Don"
