Would you play Cook for ODI's?

I am not sure on this. I believe we need an attacking opener like Trecothick, but Cook does do what Fletcher tries to achieve, someone who builds an innings slowly then accelarates. We have Strauss, who has been out of touch of late, but he is a class player and can score runs quickly or build an innnigs. However, I think he is more suited to building an innnigs. Generally, the problem resolves around England's openers since the middle order seems good enough, we just need those 2 early wickets to disapear. Will Cook be the answer to that?

I think he will.

Whether the selectors (or anyone else) thinks he's the answer is surely irrelevent: he's done more than enough to earn a run in the side... and it should then be up to him to provide that answer.

I would pick Cook, and I would even consider him as skipper, I believe the guy will be Test skipper in 4-5 years, so why not get him learning the role in ODI's?

It is a bit of a gamble, but long term it may pay off?

I'd pick him. He's certainly no slower a scorer than Bell or Vaughan, and is in form. Try him at least.

If Cook plays then one of Bell or Strauss has to be dropped. We cannot afford three "slow" scorers in the ODI side anymore. For what it's worth, I don't believe Peter Moores will go in to a match with those three. I've got a feeling we'll see Matt Prior at the top of the order where he's batted for a few years now for Sussex.

I'd pick him but think thath skip should be Collingworth.
Nice idea about Prior opening.

Cook should definatley play. He can play agressive innings and has done nothing in the limited chances he's had in ODI's to suggest otherwise.

Playing in ODI's will help develop his all round game anyway.

Yes

I can't believe he wasn't in the England World Cup squad: Absolutely ludicrous selection decision. The guy is 21- 22 yo not 30+ and pigeon holed.

How about Cook and Prior to open?

The contrast in styles may work.

Styles ?
One Day Cricket
You hit over or You hit under (hit over probably scores more)
You hit or You don't hit (You hit probably scores faster)
You get out or You don't get out (You don't get out probably gets you more runs)
You take risks or You don't take risks (The better batsman you are the less risks you have to take)

Who's your partner ? (who cares)

Its not NASA rocket science.
If Cook has the ability he will succeed.
Ian Bell seems to have succeeded but England supporters seem to wish he didn't for some queer reason ?
