Mid-season signings Essex sign Hollioake for the Twenty20. Hampshire sign Adam Voges as short-term cover for Stuart Clark. As mentioned earlier, Warwickshire sign Vaughn Van Jaarsveld on a Kolpak and also refuse to play Ian Bell in the FP Semi tomorrow, preferring lesser players. Are these short term signings good for game? Shouldn't the counties be told to select their squads at the start of the season and get on with it apart from using the loan system between counties? Should they be able to recruit more and more foreigners? How do Hampshire justify signing a batsman to replace a bowler? They can hardly claim that Clark going leaves a hole in the batting line up!

I certainly feel they should learn from Football (and I very rarely say that!) and create transfer windows, it seems crazy that you can just sign a player at any point!! I do not like the fact that overseas players can just be signed when you have a gap, this limits the opportunity of local talent representing their county. I wouldn't mind but a lot of the overseas players that are signed are substandard. Luckily we will return to one overseas player soon enough, but it seems crazy that someone like Bell should be excluded for an overseas player no one has ever heard of? I hope it backfires, and Hampshire win with ease...

I'm with you on that one, just for tomorrow. However, I do hope that Adam Voges either fails badly in the Twenty20 or is unfortunately unable to play and that Hampshire yet again fail to get to Twenty20 finals day!!
