Banger out of Winter Tours

BBC SPORT | Cricket | England | Trescothick out of England tours

Well all of those who have called for his rushed return, Trescothick has prevented any speculation by ruling himself out. He will now not play in the Twenty20 World Cup, despite previously stating his availability.

It would be great to see Trescothick playing for England again, but I get the feeling he is being honest and open this year, and he is not feeling 100% correct, so he has quite rightly ruled himself out.

I can't see him playing again for England, he is not mentally up to it. He has been at the top, he knows the pressure and he knows his own mind, and although he is physically fit and in form, he must know that that is not enough.

So it looks like Cook and Strauss are set to stay at the top - unless Denly or Compton starting making a big case for inclusion.

We have to draw a line somewhere and i think now should be the time,he has had a great career for England in both forms of the game and we should be grateful for all he did in an England shirt and wish him all the best in the future with Somerset.

There are many players who would love to have a record as good as Bangers and even though he may not have been the most stylish player ever he was a vital part in a decent side.

Real shame this. Tres is in IMO far and away the best opener we have but I agree that after this decision his time may well have come. Very sad.
