Is the ECB Starting to make the right moves

A report in Cric info has stated that Graveney and Miller have been speaking to Warne in regards to Englands spinners.

Graveney also stated in that article that Stuart Clark and Shane Warne have had an input into Tremlett's bowling changes. IE the shorten run up.

Now with the ICL chasing Warne to sign up with them - should ECB chase Warne to a coaching position?

When you consider that Cricket Australia have Terry Jenner as the spin coach and Troy Cooley as the pace coach, you start to see Australia have a very competant coaching staff.

Plus when you consider that Terry Jenner is publicly requesting that Cullen Bailey and Dan Cullen not to be picked in the Australia Test side for at least another 12-18 months - in other words select Macgill to taker over in the short term - you would think you would need a person like Warne to stand up to the ECB and do the same thing with them.

But would they listen to him?

I wouldn't mind having him on board to help Rashid along.

Well I feel I should point out England already have a spin bowling coach, the admitedly somewhat less glamorous David Parsons, who since he was appointed in January 2006 has overseen the development of Monty Panesar into a world class spin bowler and worked extensively with a number of the emerging spinners (including Rashid) with some highly promising results. He's spent time with Jenner in Australia and is pretty highly thought of in the England setup including most importantly the players who seem to respect him.

I know the Kevin Shine era (a fellow a Level 4 qualified ECB Coach) as fast bowling coach has rather damaged peoples confidence in the whole English coaching system but Parsons has already made a big (if somewhat low profile) impact and is gradually changing the rather negative perseption of spin bowling in this country at lower levels. It would be great if Warne could also be involved in that but giving him a high profile coaching position simply because he's Shane Warne is simply not on. If he wants to pursue a career in coaching then he has to jump through the same hoops as every emerging English coach and if he's unwilling to do that then he should be used in nothing more than a consultancy role, something that he would probably be far more suited to.
