Kent sign Lasith Malinga

Just announced by Rob "Ernest's whipping boy" Key live on the Hampshire vs Nottinghamshire match on Sky Sports. Also I've noticed Warne is REALLY looking old recently. I suppose when he retired from Australia he just went home and perfected the art of sagging. But anyway, Malinga. I think it's supposed to be a short term contract of 3 weeks. Key said that "He'll get a great reception from the Kent dressing room, unless he bowls terrible, then it will be a bad reception!" What's Key going to do, sit on him?

Key sitting on him won't do as much damage as it would have a few years ago, he looks a lot trimmer nowadays. But Malinga, well, that's one hell of a signing - especially given the state of Kent's seam bowling attack of late. With any luck he'll do a lot better than Andrew Hall (who he's replacing) - who's had a bit of a shocker this year, I think his bowling average is hovering around 40 this year!

Kent, Malinga, woo.

The Kent boys must be ecstatic! That's a hell of an opening fast bowler to get. I presume Kent would use him as an opening bowler. The only question is if Jones can keep to Malinga Just kidding, great signing for you guys.

Maybe if he stood on the boundary. Actually, Jones isn't that bad... I've seen the reserve keeper. Dixey (a former England Under-19 keeper, God they know how to pick them!) is even worse, he can't even keep to van Jaarsveld's dibbly-dobbly bowling! And he can't bat either - something Jones has learnt how to do again.

Malinga has to open the bowling, I can't see him being first-change behind McLaren and Cook! Perfect timing though - he debuts against Sussex in the Twenty20 finals, according to the Kent website. My expectations have suddenly risen...

Kudos to Kent on a great bit of business. As stop gap signings go Malinga's some player to get and he's probably more suited to a quick burst of 3-4 games at full tilt (in the vein of Sami in 2003) than a lengthy season long county grind. I look forward to what world class player our glorious leader Greatbatch has lined up to replace Harris as he joins Hall in the key 3 match one day series against the mighty Zimbabwe. Vettori, Bond, Jeetan Patel or a first team recall for Groenewald the suspense is just killing me .
