Good news for Vaughan and Strauss - or is it?.

I am quoting from the BBC article in order.

So in the same article Vaughan has been left out of the one day squad to let Collingwood get on with it, and Strauss the same to finde form.
Fair enough - but!!!

I see the plan is that vaughan and Strauss can pick and choose when they play, Strauss and Vaughan don't want to play at the moment - so some players are just keeping their seats warm.

just proves the ECB are the most inept body next to the ICC, does anybody agree that Vaughan and Strauss should be able to pick whan they play?, or should they be made to make their minds up?.

Well to answer your main question Ernest I don't see anything wrong with a player asking not to be considered for one day cricket for a period of time if he thinks it's having an adverse effect on his test form which in the case of Strauss it clearly has over the past 6 months. Playing ODI's will not remotely benifit Strauss's quest to find his best test form (rest or playing for Middlesex are his best bet) and in his current form he's not going to add anything to an already poor England one day side so he's 100 percent right to ask not to be considered for selection.

In terms of Vaughan well his one day career should have ended a couple of years ago but he's too stubborn to admit he's simply not good enough in that format of the game and Graveney is too spineless to make the decision for him so we're stuck .

It's not really Vaughan who I think is in the wrong here, I think it's David Graveney who is wrong for as good as saying Vaughan and Strauss can pick and choose when they decide they want to play in the one day side.

I agree fully with this part of your post - Collingwood is the new one day captain, Vaughan is not a good one day player - England should tell Vaughan to concentrate on Test cricket, and the one day set up should move on.
