Andrew Hall

Has signed for Northants on a 3 year contract

He counts as a Kolpak as he has retired from international cricket

I hate counties doing this,it stops English players coming through and yes i know Yorkshire have their share but it doesn't mean i like the idea.

Will he play alongside that other Kolpaker Lance Klusener?

Sorry, Tyler,

I hope Northants stay in Div 2 again. This just isn't positive.

So it looks like Northants will have a middle/lower order of Klusener, Boje, Hall and the overseas player Van Der Wath for next season. Now correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't one of the major reasons Kepler got the axe was members anger over his continued preference for ageing saffers over the homegrown talent? Another modest season and Capel's eggs in the one Afrikaans shape basket could well backfire on him.

Still as long as young Wakely gets an extended run in the first team I can't say I'm too gutted about the Crook's, Lucas's, Logan's of this world being consigned to 2nd XI cricket next year. If you're going to go down the kolpak route you might as well go for proven international quality and to be fair to Northants that's exactly what they've done and they will raise the standard of a division that is desperately short of quality. As will someone like Dippenaar at Leicestershire. Payers like Tim Groenewald, Ant Botha, Neil Carter on the other hand.......

Not going to say I told you so but....
Boje extends Northants deal - Domestic - ECB

And with Van der Wath calling time on his international career by joining the ICL there's now an O/S slot vacant.
