| It does as FP points out vary enormously from county to county and the gulf between top and bottom is getting wider year on year. At a county with the financial clout of Surrey the average wage is around 60k compared to close to 30k at Derbyshire. And I don't know if it is still the case but a few years ago despite having the additional resources of international cricket at Headingly Yorkshire had one of the lowest wage bills on the entire circuit. Little wonder so many of their young quicks buggered off to other counties.
If I had to break it down I'd say;
A young (18-23) uncapped player is on anywhere between 5 and 15k
The good solid archetypal county pro anywhere from 25-50k
Kolpaks 30-70k (Of course a real top end player like say a Shaun Pollock would be much more but in the main they are unfortunately still much cheaper than their like for like English counterparts)
Top end county players 70k+ (Depending on who you chose to belief there are around 5-10 England players paid over 100k)
In terms of O/S players they are still by an large the top earners at each county but the gap has closed massively from a decade ago when the real top class O/S players (Donald, Walsh, Ambrose e.t.c) were available for the entire season. For every Warne and Hussey there are a a couple of cheap and cheerful options like a Maher or Harris. Increasingly you see the high profile international players (Ponting, Malinga, Jayasuria e.t.c) arriving on lucrative sort term contracts where they earn 20k+ for barely a months work.
And it is also worth mentioning that in addition to these salaries players barely spend a penny during the season with sponsored cars, petrol funded, daily meal allowance e.t.c.
