NE subs only come into play if someone is unexpectedly injured just before or during the 1st match and will miss the rest of the series.

Vaughan was only likely to miss the first match, so no subs are required.

I hav edited this in, because I got clarification from Mike.

Reserves have been used on a number of occasions. Originally reserves were meant to be used if your main player missed most of the series due to injury or if you picked a fringe player who was never selected to play in any match. Now reserves are mainly used for the first reason. I personally feel that if a Manager wants to gamble by selecting a fringe player then that is their choice and they should accept the consequences if that player is not selected to play in any of the matches.

Injuries are a different matter and is out of the control of the Manager unless they knew beforehand that a player was injured and may miss part of the series. For example, I selected Justin Langer in the series against the West Indies knowing he was injured. I gambled he would only miss one Test but he missed two Tests. I don't expect my reserve to be used in this situation. If Langer had missed all three Tests then I might have a case for using my reserve player.

Michael Vaughan is another example. His injury was known before the series started so if you still picked him you gambled that he'd only miss one Test. If he missed the first two Tests but played the 3rd then you don't really have a case for using a reserve.

Where reserves are appropriate is when a player is injured in the first match and misses the rest of the series or when a player is injured prior to the commencement of the series but not enough notice was given to enable Managers to edit their team before the cut-off time.

The best time for a game Creator to edit Managers teams to swap the reserve in is after the last match has been scored. All the rankings are provisional until the teams have been edited and the points and rankings have been updated.

There is no provision to use a reserve on a per match basis. In otherwords, once a reserve is used the previous points made by the injured main player are discounted from your points tally. Only the points by the reserve player are used in your points tally.

Flintoff 728!!! I might get to like this guy yet.

If only I'd chosen Tresco. My reasoning was that his teqnique might get shown up by reverse swing at 150 km/ph... Obvioulsy I got it wrong.
