Anil Kumble has (along with Shaun pollock) been my favourite bowler for some time: an inspration to all of us who delight in intelligent bowling.. and the most wonderful reminder there could be that there's more to slow bowling than turning the ball square. I was a bit saddened that his day was marred by some brutal assaults on his bowling from Clarke: kinda takes the gloss off.

He has bowled amazingly intelligently. Has matured and developed a lot of variation and he's not a spent force by any means. Those who were writting him off are only as blinded as the one's who are thinking McGrath is no more good.

Yes it did get over-looked but that's probably because the gloss was taken off by India's poor showing. I know when we play against India he's the bowler who I always fear is going to do the most damage. His unique style of delivery where he whips the ball through much quicker than conventional bowlers is what stands him apart from others. A real blue chip player for India throughout an illustrious career.

What a great post Nikhil, how nice of you to take the initiative to honor one of the most relentless, uncomplaining and fierce competitors of modern times. In a country where batsman rather then bowlers get the lion's share of acknowledgements and plaudits Anil Kumble has stood out as a loyal wholehearted tier, unwilling to be bogged down by the success of Harbajjan Singh Kumble continues to persevere. His will be the misfortune of have played in the same era as two of the greatest spinners in test cricket history but from an Indian perspective few will argue that he has a record that speaks for it self. It will only be a fitting aftermath to joining the prestigious 400 wicket club to go on and break India's record for most test wickets. Although given the choice he would enjoy getting a five for against Australia in this current series more than most things right now. He bowled poorly to Australia today and in the first innings, serving up full tosses to out of form Lehman of the first ball he faced and giving rant long hops to an under pressure Martyn. India will seek an improvement from him no doubt.
