BCCI cancelled ODIs against the Oz.

Now that's a good move. Atlast, BCCI has come up to terms with popularity of tests. But it also has to be admitted that they are doing it, only because the opponent is Australia. BCCI wants seven ODI's against the Saffers, which is rubbish. The SA cricket board has correctly rejected the itenerary. They want two tests, which is quite logical IMO.

Every tour should have at least 3 Tests and then time permitting they can play as many ODIs as they like. The SA tour would be a joke if they played 7 ODIs and no tests.

Quite agree with you. I don't know why only two tests, since SA haven't played in India since the tainted tour in 2000. Also, beating SA in India will be a major shot in the arms for Indian team as far as the ICC test cricket ranking is concerned.

Indians have been walloped by Ozzies in ODI's lately and so there's no point really in getting walloped again, also the test series will be more exciting to watch and follow. Just hope that both the sides are well and fit and we get to see the best outta both of them!

Nikhil, lets hope sense prevails and we get to see some decent cricket over the Indian winter instead of 7 ODIs with SA. I really want to see how we match up against SA now and ODIs are really no guide. Its all just getting too commercialised now and the sponsors and TV rights and gate money is all that matters! Sad.

Yes India have fared pretty badly in ODIs with Ozzies, but that does not mean they should stop playing ODIs against OZ. Perhaps they should have stopped playing cricket away from home altogether a few years ago because they never won anything. Perhaps we should scrap the Ashes because we've been thrashed by Aus so many times. Perhaps Bangladesh should refuse the next test series against whoever because they are walloped by just about everybody except the current WI and Zim. I don't like this suggestion of chickening out because they have been beaten by Aus so many times in ODIs. I prefer to see it as good sense prevailing and tests being given their due respect and importance for once.

A test series will always be more exciting, especially against Australia so I am glad that they are not sacrificing tests for ODIs in this case, but that seems to be BCCIs plan for SA and that is pretty pathetic.

The only team to really beat India is Australia. No other team can be confident of winning an ODI series against India. So it really makes sense to play ODI's only against the Oz's. But since the India-Oz test match is much more exciting that all the ODI's in the year combined, it BCCI has taked the correct step by cancelling the ODI's to make room for one more test.

I'm quite sure we will see the best cricket has to offer on that tour.

Shalini,

The SA cricket board has rejected the itenerary BCCI had proposed. They want to play tests as well as ODI's. But now they have other problem. The schedules of both the teams are so cramped, that adding tests to the current seven ODI's is not possible. BCCI doesn't want to cancel ODI's. I hope it's not an impasse. They will find some amicable solution to this.

I also heard Pakistan is likely to tour India for some Jubilee tournament. I'm not quite sure what's that though.

Nikhil.

Personally i like the tests more than ODI's and wats better to see Austraila facing off India in India. And i dont agree with ur point of "The only team to really beat India is Australia", only recently this has been the case.

Infact, I don't rate ODI's much. But since they generate a lot of revenue, BCCI wants them played. Well, I am talking about current picture. It's difficult to see India being beaten by others on an ODI wicket.
