Hi Nikhil
with due respect to your opinion I completely disagree with the above statement.
ASIA CUP is a prestigious tournament.
No other continent in the world has such a continental cup on a regular basis.
4 test playing nations hail from Asia compared with maximum of 2 from australia or africa.
And India or any other asian country for that matter would like to send their full strength team rather than a second string team(resting key players) and try to be the Asian Champions.
Right now their might be some minnows in the tournament but this is their chance to show their skill on a bigger platform,
We've just seen the greece crowned the Europion champions beating many of the europion big guns, this might be very unlikely for Ban,HK or UAE in Asia cup right now,but who knows, we might see an upset or two in the tournament.

Regards
kiran

Kiran,

I don't think Asia cup has much priority on the ICC scale. Also, I don't know how many points are we going to gain by winning this tourney. I don't think it will be worth a lot of points.

Why I said we should use such tournaments to give exposure to new players is it's easier for the new players to make debuts under lesser pressure as compared to making debuts against teams like Aus/SA etc.

Nikhil.

My impression is that the Asia cup will attract a far, far greater audience.. and be accorded far greater prestige by far, far more people.. than anything the ICC might rate as more important: I hope I'm wrong.. and that the forthcoming Test Series between Eng and SA, for instance, will quite eclipse what is, at the end of the day, just a big pyjama party - but somehow I doubt it.

There are many of us who would love to see Tendulkar, Dravid, Inzi, Akhtar, Murali, Vaas and the like "rested" for the Asia cup so that they can come back bright eyed and bushy tailed for the real cricket.. but it would, I guess, be a brave selector that took THAT decision!!!!

The Asia cup is surely going to attract a lot more spectators than the Eng/SA series. That's because the sheer number of fans for each of the Asian countries. People here are alreasy talking about it excitedly, while they hardly talk about any other cricket.

I wish Sachin and Kumble are rested. There are a lot of ODI's still to be played and they will certainly get the practice for the Aussie series even if they skip this tourney, but I'm certain that's not going to happen.

Nikhil.
Asia Cup is a very prestigious tournament. Its played once every 2 yrs. Its the only region wise tournament in cricket. Asia is the backbone of the ICC and without the inputs from the Asian members, ICC wudnt have been here where its now.

As for India's chances in the Cup, I think its very bright. We will get resistance from Pakistan and hosts SriLanka. But we can overcome them easily. I hope India wins the toss and bats against UAE tomorrow

Men in blue Rulez

what a close encounter INDIA vs SL......
India showed the character....being there till the end....even if everything was going against them.....just like they did in champions trophy 2 yrs back at the same ground against south africa....also like Australia did in TVS cup finals at Edan gardens...
it doesn't matter if ICC doesn't give too much importance to it.....All Asia cup events have given amazing display of oneday cricket....and we love it..
Lets hope Team India delivers again on Sunday...(they have to play too much better to lift Asia cup for fifth time)

regards
kiran

Cool Indians need Good bowlers ,

I think Pak Vs india match was one sided encounter no indian batsman showed any guts to stay at the crease and Tendulkar also has past his best ,now he has only two to three years of cricket left ,he lacked any urgency during the inning .India played five bowlers still they gave away 300 , don't u think they even rely on their Batsmen even when they bowl , just see the examples of Sachin,Sehwaj,Youvraj bowling overs on crucial stage ,Doon't they have good bowlers to bowl insted to throw the ball to any batter to do the trick.Aus ,Pak ,Srilankans, South Africans, have their bowlers and batsment tasks cut out ...Any views on that

Indian were outplayed by pak in that match. but when they were 5 down they were playing for the bonus point...and rest is history...Had Pak shown some urgency in final 2 overs...we would have seen pak in finals. I think the days are over that if Indias beats pak or PAk beat india and thats the goal..it doesn't matter how they perform in rest of the tourney...NO its no more like that..
@ sachin..he's not over by any means..he belong to a different league..we expect him to score 500 run in a tournament and he makes only 300s or 320s and that his bad patch(!)..he's slowed down a bit...and the game is moving faster...its no more era of 250-280 its era of 315-340s...but i guess he'll cope up with that..
in bowling dept..a bowler may not be in good form on a day..so reserve bowlers have to bowl...also sachin and sehwag are experienced compared to bala..also i guess pathan is also bowling good under pressure too....ya but they have to improve in bowling dept..thats for sure..

Talking Re:

Atleast there are some indians who can accept that Pakis outplayed them in that match , yes pakistanis did some technical mistakes during that match but it was coz of that nobody knew that so-called world's second best team will show such poor performance, nobody has thought about saving a bonus point till the 45th over except the commentators.
Sachin is Over now ,its time for the yougsters to take his place in next two years ,believe me world cup 2007 will be a nightmare for india ,they would have players like sachin, gangully, dravid ,Kumble who will be nearing or more than 35 ,they will be a white elephant on indian team had they not introduced any capable yougsters like youvraj and kaif in place of them,Everyone can sese that tendulkar is nearing his end at rapid pace now.
Donn't u think indian cricket should be shameful for not having produce a single quality wicketkeeper they have to rely on a batsman to keep wickets ,to bowl crucial overs(like Sahwag against SL in asia cup) and indeed they also have to score the runs ,why not declare it a "Batsmen Eleven" and fill it with
11 batsmen
