But if you read all of Russell's comments, he seems to suggest that Jones has more potential than Read and that Jones is moer willing to learn
I think Jack Russell has been one of ther greats,BTW I think his batting reminded me of the late high cut ,Knott used to play, unorthadox batter, but a fine keeper.

To me I will tell you why I have some sypathy with Read,it is the way Vaughan and Flecher got rid of him, when no other selectors where not there.and rubbed it in with saying Jones will get the same long run as you,but he was to keep his ODI place, only to find they had installed GOJones in that as well.

I am not disagreeing with what J Russell has said,he shoud know, but the way Read was treated.

Another fine wicket keeper Rod Marsh, had taken Read under his wing so to speak, and it must have been a great delight to fletcher to get one over on Marsh.

That Jones came across as more enthusiastic is hardly surprising either: Read comes across, even on TV, as relatively quiet and his own man.. where Jones comes across as a fairly bolshy Aussie "Team" man.
Do you not rate Russel and the old-fashioned englsih wasy of keeping then?

I think she was just using that as a description of style rather than a put down, rachael's a big fan of jack russel.

Interesting point though, have you got a link to the article at all? Chris read seems to meek to me to be arrogant and jones would be the one to me that could come across as arrogant simply because of his accent (have to say though that when i've heard him interviewed he seemed a really nice chap, i'm a fan of both of them and would love to have seen an england side with them both in, especially one dayers).

Oh, I do rate it: I can see why it's favoured over here... and am happy that a good enough gloveman can make EITHER way of operating work... but I could see that Read would have slightly less interest in Russell as a coach when he's basically Rod Marsh's prodigy and has his mentor just down the road at loughborough!

I read something of this in the Torygraph earlier in the week (can't recall who wrote it or what day).. and I got the sense that the media were trying to make something out of nothing: as I understand it, Russell still rates Read as the best gloveman of his generation... but in one session at old Trafford found Jones more forward and garrulous and therefore the slightly easier of the two to get to know - and therefore felt he was marginally easier to coach.

There may have been slightly more to it.. but that wasmy impression from skim-reading the article.

I agree, think the media are making a lot of what was probably an innocuous enough comment (that is their job after all!)

It does stand to reason that Geraint Jones would be the easier of the two to coach, he has more room for improvement. Read is very close to being a complete keeper, it would be hard to teach him too many "new tricks" if you like.

With Jones, you would bloody well expect him to be enthusiastic to improve. Just as i expect that whoever is in charge of working with the batting would find Read more eager to learn!
