Most Indian journalists and former players had been baying for Ganguly's head for the whole series, hence they are all rather pleased that the ICC has done what the BCCI could not.
It's a blessing in disguise for most Indians, on his current form Ganguly is a liability. As a captain who has led his team to new heights in recent years it's probably better that he doesn't have to put up with the abuse he is getting from crowds in India IMO.

You are right Shaka, he has been receiving a lot of abuse from the majority of Indian fans, at each and every match. People do have such short memories! The following from cricinfo is just another example of what he has to put up with:
Quote:
It will be long debated if Sourav Ganguly, whose current form with the bat is that of a tailender, came out to bat at No. 4 before Rahul Dravid out of responsibility or selfishness. Either way, it did not help the side. The platform when he came out to bat was perfect for quick acceleration, but he pottered around uncertainly, as out-of-place as an octegenarian at a disco. You knew the end was nigh when he charged out to Shoaib Malik, missed the ball completely, and Kamran Akmal muffed an easy stumping. "They let him go deliberately," said someone in the press box. "Pakistan want Ganguly to keep batting."

But he was run out in the next over, a decision made by the third umpire. The players huddled together after the appeal, waiting for the decision, and a buzz went through the crowd. Then suddenly they cheered madly, this home crowd, because their captain had been given out. Ganguly walked back slowly, as the loud applause at his dismissal turned into louder booing. You felt sorry for the man, but unfair as this salt on an open wound was, that wound was self-inflicted. And only one man had the medicine.

I mentioned somewhere else that Ganguly's antics are probably doing more harm than his form. He was constantly hounded for his overwhelming ego and his princely ways, and nobody, even when he was batting adequately, thought much of his attitude. Now that he has lost some form, its all coming back to haunt him.

ICC: Spine at last?

The ICC has rejected Ganguly's appeal against his six-match suspension.

BBC report here.

Ganguly.

When he is on fire, he is inspirational. When he isn't, he is a disgrace.

At the moment, Sourav is a disgrace and if he was a normal player he wouldn't get a game...I think this signals the end of Ganguly's career, at least in the short form of the game

I don't disagree with this ban at all. But it's made me think about Chris Board quite a lot, you know. That man doesn't believe in making a lot of friends it seems aparently

Of the other referees, only Roshan Mahanama (two) has imposed more than one penalty.
And when you think that this was the very man that...

Hmm...seems rather contradictory to me his actions.

Latest on the Ganguly Appeal Controversy from cricinfo:

The ICC appeals commissioner Michael Beloff upheld the six-match ban on Sourav Ganguly, but Jagmohan Dalmiya, the former BCCI president, and current Cricket Association of Bengal president, has said that “the match is not over yet.” The Times of India quotes Dalmiya as saying that the Indian board was still considering its options. It appears that Dalmiya is hinting at taking the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, as there are no further appeals left within the ICC framework. Sourav Ganguly, for his part, seems to have accepted the decision. “I could only appeal. The ICC has turned it down. I accept the verdict,” he is quoted as saying. Ganguly’s appeal, received in the form of written submissions, was turned down by Beloff, who contended that, “Cricket is a game that is played in all kinds of climates. It cannot be right that the mere fact of the heat and humidity will excuse a failure to achieve the minimum over rate.”

This is kinda ridiculous, as far as i'm concerned, the decision looks pretty clear cut. The matter should be a done deal by now.

Ganguly's ban I think was the right decision. In the earlier match he had already been fined his whole match fee and the very next match again slow over rate! What do you say about this guy.I think his ban will now give some younger players a chance to show what they have in store. It could might turn good for India and even Ganguly because he did need a break.
