Post Indian selectors announce 36 probables

List of probables

Batsmen Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Mohammed Kaif, Yuvraj Singh, VVS Laxman, Dinesh Mongia, Gautam Gambhir, Suresh Raina, Venugopala Rao, Niraj Patel, Dheeraj Jadhav, S Sriram, Hemang Badani

Medium-pacers Zaheer Khan, L Balaji, Ashish Nehra, Irfan Pathan, Ajit Agarkar, Gagandeep Singh, SS Paul, Ranadeb Bose, Harvinder Singh, Amit Bhandari, Siddharth Trivedi, Sree Santh, Joginder Sharma, Munaf Patel, JP Yadav, Rajamani Jesuraj

WIcketkeepers MS Dhoni, Dinesh Karthik, Parthiv Patel

Spinners Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh, Murali Kartik.

Boy! They didnt even have so many probables for the World Cup! Anyways I hope this 'conditioning camp' gives a good oppurtunity to the Coach to have a look at the fringe players. Am surprised to see Harvinder Singh included, he's 27 but doesnt have what is required to to well at the top level. Munaf Patel hasnt played a FC game for quite some time but he still should get a look in for his raw pace. I'm happy for VRV Singh and RP Singh for not being included in this list, they would be getting education in Australia. Am surprised to see Ramesh Powar and Amit Mishra left out.

Hmmm. The ECB development squad of 25 seems a better size. Does mean making some tough decisions (e.g. Matt prior didn't get in)... but just listing 36 rather than making tough calls doesn't strike me as helpful. In particular is sends a pretty raw message to those who do NOT make the list... at least with just 25 you can leave lots of people thinking they are close to a final squad place...

Good to see Parthiv Patel back in there. An inclusion in the developement squad means he's probably worked on his keeping and brought it back to the level where the selectors wanted it to be, this should give India plenty of wicket keeping options.

Sorry to disappoint you ZR, but its not all so easy and fair in Indian Cricket. Observers from club games say Parthiv's keeping is as bad or good as it was. He's here because he's got the backing of Kiran More who's the chairman of selectors. I like this guys gutts when he stands in front of the wicket but when it comes to taking guard behind it, he's simply not improving...Maninder Bisla would have been a better option.

Aakash Chopra for ODIs? No way! I dunno why they have even included Dhiraj Jadhav, his s/r must be a run or two better than Chopra's!

Aaahh, that's rather sad to know. I was impressed by Parthiv when I initially saw him playing in his first test against England. But since then his keeping has gone down hill. Sadly. Perhaps he was introduced into test cricket too early.

Who said ODIs? I think he had a good technique and was a good foil for Sehwag in the tests. Ghambir looks good too but no harm in having him in developement squad of 36 players. (Even if training camps are a/c to that article useless).

This list of 36 players is for the Sri Lanka tri-series. Thats why they didn`t pick Chopra. And as for Parthiv Patel, he is there only because of influence. He doesn`t deserve a place there and Ajay Ratra could have been included instead. People say that Patel got immense talent with the bat but he simply hasn`t done anything to justify that. His keeping behind the wickets is pathetic as well. Moreover, no other Indian keeper has got so many chances to prove inspite of repeated failures.
