Sehwag XI vs Dravid XI - Whats the point?

Scorecard here:
http://nz.cricinfo.com/db/ARCHIVE/20...17JUL2005.html

And so the best of Indian cricket duke it out in this run feast, bar Sachin and Ganguly. All I can ask is, is this really the best way to warm-up for a series? So what if the Indians can smash their own bowlers about, in their own backyard, they had a similar series going last year with but three teams based around the best indian cricket had to offer, and again we saw more high scores, more bowlers getting belted.

As far as I see it, these matches not only discourage the bowlers, but it gives the batsmen a false sense of security, it really means little and they could be clueless to the international standard of bowling as a result.

My opinion anyway...

What other form of preparation can they do? They can only play such kind of matches at home.

I think their domestic competition needs a bit of a re-vamp, it seems to me no one cares much about it there.

Absolutely. But these sorta matches are needed, the only problem is the God damned pitches! Dunno when they'll wake up and prepare real ones, real pitches which setup a real contest, not a circus! God! we have the richest but also the most stupid and corrupt cricket board!

Agreed, its only simple common sense really. If you prepare a run-feast, then the bowlers are made redundant.

Crowd pleasers yes, but were not here to please crowds, were here to WIN. Right?

Wait a minute man, at the end of the day Cricket is nothing but for entertainment only. So I dont think its right to say we are not here to please the crowds. One can say that we are here for quality entertainment, wherein the fan gets to see a real contest, and not just mindless slaughter of the bowlers. We are here to win of course but that winning wont get us the fans anything else than entertainment.

Good point, however I think Indian cricket should be ultimately focussed on producing results rather than doing good for the crowd. Because especially with India, the crowds will always be there regardless.
