Have they picked him because
a. They feel they need all their big guns against Pakistan and don't want to be critcised if they lose to their arch rivals leaving Ganguly out.
or
b. Is this the last chance they giving him to prove his batting worth before they dump him?

Both

Both John they want to show that Ganguly is no longer the Ganguly he was 4 5 years ago. Also just encase if he does start to play well then they will keep him. I personlay think if Ganguly fails against my Pakistan tigers then his carrer with India is done .

Greg Chappell is gonna humiliate Ganguly big time, in Pakistan! Ganguly wont be playing the 1st test and if Yuvraj does nothing wrong Chappell wont even consider Ganguly for carring the drinks! He's not even that good!

Ganguly is being put in the squad to stop any rioting IMO. Although I don't think that he is really helping himself by not playing in the two domestic games he could play in, I'm fine that he wants to spend Christmas with his family but it could cost him his test career.

You think. Well I am not so sure I tell you what I would like to have Ganguly in SA present lineup. So would WI, Sri Lanka and NZ.
Take a look at the Indian middle order not the smash and grab middle order of England. You've got batsmen their including Ganguly who can play very patient innings. I would be careful about reading too much into the England series. India and Ganguly are a different kind of side.

Ganguly stopped growing as a batsman after those tours of Australia and Pakistan. Not that he's finding it tough, he just doesnt want to. Chappell is right when he questions Gangulys attitude. This guy will just have to go.
