Enough of Ganguly!

Common guys, get over Ganguly now! I had enough of him and discussions regarding him! Indian cricket is vast and we have so much to talk about other than Ganguly. Regarding spinners, we have quite a few interesting prospects in Amit Mishra and Piyush Chawla. Ramesh Powar should be encouraged too as he's a competitive offie and a very good lower order batsman.

Irfan Pathan

Irfan Pathan has been bowling excellently the past two ODI's versus Pakistan, especially at the start of the innings when the ball was swinging. He is using his old weapon of swinging bowl in the right-hander very cleverly, the way he dismissed some of the Pakisatni batsmen was pure class!

Because he is getting alot of help from the condition at the start of the innings when the white ball is still shiny he should ball the maximum amount of overs he possibly can, maybe about 8 overs at the start. At the moment he bowls around 5/6 overs and is replaced, which is wrong in my IMO because when he comes back to bowl at the end of the innings he is pretty much in-effective and gets smacked around the park.

Also about his batting, I think we shouldn't be putting to much burden on him. Today we saw Pathan coming at no.3 and he failed which is not suprising as he was probably very tired after bowling 10 overs in Pakistani innings. I think we should only use Pathan at no.3 when we are batting first and if we are batting second he should bat below the top 5 batsmen.

This is great news for India, the cricketer in the under-19 team looks very good. I am very impressed with the young leg-spinner Piyush Chawla, he will be a good replacment for Anil Kumble in the future. The two oepner bowlers have been very good and lets hope India produces some fast bowlers of the future so we can improve our away record.

I think India will win the final, they were favourites at the start of the tournamant and they looks favourites for the final. Good luck to Pakistan and Australia in the semi-finals.

Cheteshwar Pujara, Mayank Tehlan, Ravikant Shukla are batsmen of great temperament. Then we have hard-hitting allrounder Gaurav Dhiman, who opens the batting & bowling. And not to forget Assamese-quickie A. Ahmed, who ran through the English today! Certainly no dearth of talent in this country! Hopefully there will be the right people to guide these young guns during their formative years. BTW, am looking forward to an Indo-Pak final!

Doink our pace attack is looking excellent for the future. RP Singh, Pathan, SreeSanath are all bowling excellently in the ODI's gamne against Pakistan, I hope they can repeat these sorts of performances in the Test arena.

If they continue this form we have a great chance of winning the world cup in 2007. Remember last time in 2003, we got to the finals because of our pace attack, Srinath, Zaheer and Nehra all bowled very well. If Pathan, RP Singh and SreeSanath all come good we could win our first world cup since '83.

I am looking forward to 18th of Feburaury as England are playing their first warmup game of the tour. They will face a Boards XI, the interesting part is that the front-line pacemen are the fastest bowlers in the country - Munaf Patel and VRV Singh. Lets hope these two youngsters can show some potentail in this game, we need these fast men in the future is we want to improve our away record.

This group is doing well but will have to work harder to help India beat the English. I have a feeling we will get to see a couple of new seamers play for India very soon, namely VRV Singh and SS Paul. We need atleast one of them to click at the int'l level. Also if we can get either of Salvi or Balaji back into the fold. And considering Bhajji's form it will be interesting to see how Powar and Amit Mishra do against England.

I havn't seen Balaji on pitch for a very long time. he should be able to play agaist England and i am sure he would do well agaist England. i would like to watch VRV Singh or SS Paul playing international cricket for india some time this year would be nice to watch them so if there are able to play international level India could use them as sub or not for the 07 world cup, like to see some new faces on pitch.
India v England coming very soon and what can i say, i am excited like alway to watch every india v any team.

Yes I am one of Balaji's fans, he is certainly better than Agakar and Zaheer so he should be in the team. He had a very good tour of Pakistan in 2004 and it was a suprise that he wasn't picked.

He can be a very dangerous bowler when the conditons suit him, as he can swing and seam the ball both ways, some of the deliverys he sent dwon in 2004 against Pakistan were jaffers! He beats the bat many times and is unlucky not to get as mnay wickets as Pathan.

We need Balaji back, his partnership with Pathan is very good and they both must play for us in the world cup '07.

Both of these bowlers are the fastest in the country and have very good records in domestic cricket.

SS Paul has an average of 23 with 169 wickets! That is a very good bowling average for an Indian bowler on bland Indian picthes which offer nothing to seam bowlers. He can be very good on these picthes because he hits the deck hard and he is also enjoys bowling long spells, he could be in the side for another spinner in Tests bowling as a 'workhorse'.

What I have heard of VRV Singh is that he uses his pace very well to trouble the batsmen but must learn to bowl line and lentgh. Once he learns to bowl with control, India will be happy to select their first bowler that can bowl consistantly over 90+.

A very good article on VRV is here.
