U.P. are the new Ranji Trophy champs, this being their very first success in 72 attempts! Though Bengal denied them an outright win U.P. nevertheless looked the better team. U.P. made 387 in their 1st inns with both Mohd. Kaif and Suresh Raina getting out in the 90's. Bengal made a strong reply with 373 but conceding a slender lead of 12 runs to U.P. India U-19 leggie Piyush Chawla took 5/83. U.P. Then again batted well to make 342 in their 2nd inns, Kaif making 109 and Raina chipping in with 52. Bengal had to get an improbable 357 in just 43 overs. Teenage seamer P.Kumar reduced Bengal to 54/5 taking 5/33 in just 9 overs! They finished up at 109/5. U.P. lifted their maiden Ranji Trophy title by virtue of 1st inns lead. Congrats to U.P. !!

Great batting from Kaif, he's not harming the selectors opinion of him. If he can continue the good form then surely he should get into the squad for tests?

Yep, now people are questioning Laxman's form so Kaif surely is a challenger to Laxman's place in the team.
