Question Is it time to Drop Sehwag?

Sehwag has failed yet again.

Apart from a double century on a batting paradise, he has not performed for quite some time now. Is it time to drop him and give chance to other youngsters?

Of late he is going through a bit of grey patch in terms of runs, I think he needs to get lots of time in the middle to get the feeling of getting bat on ball again. Playing in Test matches and hardly batting only makes things worse because you are getting no time in the middle. Once the confidence of scoring runs comes back Sehwag will be firing again.

Whats with people on dropping players?

If he was to be dropped who could replace him? The best bet is Ghambir, so Indian openers will be Jaffer and Ghambir, both very in-experianced at the top level, this is will be even worser for India. If Ghambir wasn't picked than India will bring in another middle-order batsmen (most likely Laxman) and Dravid will open, our best batsmen put up agianst the new ball, yet another worse position for India, Sehwag cannot be dropped he is the best opener we have at the moment.

Yes Sehwag's performance has not been great but I believe he can come back, he is a man who will learn from his mistakes and he will get his pride back. At the moment he has a technique problem with the short ball aimed at his body but I am sure he can sort that out with Chappel.

He justs needs to play the pull shot properly when the short ball is directed at his body, once he learns that he will be back to his merry ways. If somebody believes that he can't handle short bowling then just look at his performances against Brett Lee against Austrlaia and look at the way he handled Akhatar in the Pakistan series, he played both of them well when the short ball went over his head or when it was not directed at his body, so the problem is when the ball is coming into his body not the "short ball" exactly.

I do not believe Sehwag is indispensible.

Also his performance in the past cannot be argued. However he is not scoring runs at the moment and this is the bottom line. A batsman's job is to score runs and if he does not do so over a period of time, he should be dropped in favour of someone else.

I agree with Waseem, Sehwag should not be dropped now. With the series won, its time to give him opportunity and allow him to bat in the middle if he wishes to. Batting in the middle order, he will face the old ball and probably will be able to spend more time. He has proved his worth. We know well that every batsman hits a bad phase once in a few years. Sehwag will get out of this very soon.

No player is indispeneble. Not even Dravid or Tendulkar. India can play without them as well. The question is when do u drop a player of the abilities of Sehwag. In my opinion, he should continue.

I do not believe international matches should be used as practice matches for out-of-form players.

On the contrary since the series is decided, it is a perfect time to introduce promising youngsters.

These cricketers will get international exposure plus the very important experience of playing at this level.

I bet England wish they had Sehwag at the top of the order at the moment. He looks more like getting runs than Prior or Strauss.

Why drop him?He is an outstanding cricketer who has just lost his form.Even the great Rahul Dravid lost it at some time.Anyway,he is contributing good 25 to 35 runs at the top of the order.

Just because he is a good batsman does not mean that Sehwag should not be dropped. He has fallen cheaply even today and it is high time the selectors make a bold move to drop him.

Maybe give him a rest but not drop him. He has set very high standards for himself so any bad form like this is bound to cause worry.
The fact is India need Sehwag, Tendulkar is unlikely to recapture his great form in my opinion. (He is likely to become an ordinary Test batsmen). Yuvraj is unproven at Test cricket at this point, Kaif very in and out of form. Dhoni and Pathan too early to tell in the longer term. So over the next three years Sehwag is needed and talk of dropping him should be done in a constructive way ie. Giving him a rest.
