Who is the Greatest Indian Batsman?

Over the years India have produced some of the finest batsmen in cricket’s long history. India batsmen are known to be great players of slow bowling and play shots with their famous iron wrists. But who is the greatest?

This is one of the most talked about topics in Indian cricket history; the topic of ‘who is the greatest India fast bowler’ is never really talked about because Kapil Dev holds that title by a mile compared to the other fast bowlers India has produced.

In my opinion, Sunil Gavaskar is the greatest batsman Indian has produced. This is because his record is outstanding, considering he was an opener playing in the golden age of fast bowling.

Rahul Dravid.

He edges out Sachin as lately he hasn't had as much impact on their recent success in Test matches. Sachin had spells of low scoring before balancing it out with a huge score. Dravid on the other hand has been consistant from his debut basically. His batting, overseas in particular, has engineered some of their most famous victories of late, and he manages to convert his batting heroics into victories.

Perhaps its a harsh criticism that Sachin couldn't do that in his prime (as most of his team we're quite often floundering around), but I feel that Dravid is truly converting this team into a genuine threat for the number one spot.

i do feel that sachin is the greatest batsman forever .....sachin has a great commitment towards cricket...and his behavior on the field is outstanding.....and as far as fas bowling is concerned ,he is the one who tackles this department very well...he has a very wide range of shots ....and he demonstrated his talent by winning the sharjah cup against australia ...in which he guided india to victory single handedly........india still cannot win many game without sachin.....as india did in west indies ...... and he showed his greatness against pakistan in the 2003 world cup....

(From a batting perspective) India don't miss Sachin if he performs like he did against England in March, a series average (3 matches) of 20.75 makes for poor reading, especially when eight batsmen averaged higher.

I do agree, though, over the long-term when he is in some sort of form what he provides for the team is amazing.

every player do have bad phase in their career ....as far as in dian team is concerned they still need sachin for his batting skills.... one huge score will tell u what kind of player he is .........IN ODI's our batting order collapsed many times like a pack of cards without sachin.........u can't talk about him .... he can't score 100 every time he goes to bat ...........he is after all a human being as u and me................

I completely agree harsha, Tendulkar's presence in the one-day side cannot be questioned.

With all of the injury concerns Sachin's had in recent times it's not surprising that in test matches he has struggled. I am sure his form will return and his form will once again make him a crucial part of the Indian test batting line up.

there is no one in the team indispensable
if saurav can be relegated to state side because of his continued poor performance then even sachin should have the same treatment
now the odi's are more competative and physically tougher than ever(especially for bowlers and fielders)
its necessary for the team to have a better fielder and consistent batsmen than just a batsmen
so i do feel if sachin performs well with both bat as well as in his part timers he could still be there in the odi team
but he needs to be more consistent
in the alst 4 years he is not the usual sachin of 90's
yes he become older and matured
but he also needs to score consistently to cement his place in the team
both srilanka and champions trophy(also malaysia tournament)will give us a clear idea about sachin's ability
if he fails in all these 3
then he should be replaced by a in form player
