I was disappointed to find they wont screen all the Champions Trophy games on NZ tv. I'll be missing out on India matches !

It is indeed sad that in this day and age of satellite TV, in a first world country like NZ, the pay TV (SKY) is not showing live cricket matches.

While there is overdose of rugby on SKY, cricket on the whole is blatantly ignored.

I have decided to try and live with it...

But I think it depends a great deal on what the broadcaster sees as the "main" sports. That means, the sport that will attract the most viewers for them.

In South Africa, its football (soccer). We really get an overdose of that! I reckon the ALL Blacks is THE team for New Zealand though...

As a matter of fact, cricket is ONLY shown on a pay channel. Thus, most Safricans miss out.

BUt, we got to see all of the NKP matches though...nice.

At least you got to see the local Indian matches in South Africa!!! This in itself is a big thing.

Here in NZ too, all the matches (even the international matches played in NZ) are shown only on pay TV. But hardly any international match not involving NZ is shown live or otherwise. The media, the public, the sponsors and all seem to be fascinated with only rugby and nothing else. Until this craze gives way to practicality, there appears to be no chance of cricket fans getting to see all live international matches not involving NZ.

Even our domestic games are broadcast on the pay channel. So, where as in the past you could have a good old chat with all your mates on a game or two, now its only the fortunate ones (pay tv is expensive here) that ever get to see who the next Proteas are.

When the Proteas play at home, no matter who the competition, the state broadcaster also shows the matches (agreement with the pay channel). Any and all tours are on the pay channel. Even the big events like the CT and WC.

This was the first time we got to see local Indian matches though, but I think it may well become a regular feature.

Even tours not involving SA, we get to see on the Pay channel. Like ANY tour involving India and Pakistan, and the Ashes.

Well Django, perhaps we (Springboks) could do you guys a favour...If the 'Boks take the World Cup next year, perhaps the New Zealand public will start looking at the other national sport (no, not netball ) and you could see more cricket!

All blacks have not been the world cup champions for quite some now and still rugby rules in NZ.

NZ won Olympic Gold medal in Hockey in 1976 and even then the game was ignored in favour of rugby. As a result hockey is practically in ruins here in NZ.

It is going to be virually impossible to change the mind-set of the media, administrators and others to think outside the rugby "square".
