Thats a bit far fetched, its hardly just the Indians who recognise what a good player he is, he is basically a household name for any cricketing nation. He may be arguebly past his best, but 10,000 ODI runs don't just magically appear. He has a respectable overseas record, he did make 241* at the SCG not long ago.

Sachin was getting into a good shape. Other batemen's form made it difficult for him to recover. You dont put weight on a man who is trying to stand up. But he played a great innings in the last ODI. I am calling it great because he looked completely clueless in the biggining and then slowly got into rythm and played some great shots. Hie experience helped him. I hope to see him score some runs in the test match.

well I didn't see Sachin's innings, I went some of your fine Indian cuisine, but what I read in the Asian Age was that Sachin got to 50 by pure luck.

Hmmm...don't believe everything you read...Some people just love to kick a man when he's down...

I watched every ball of Sachin's innings, and under the circumstances, he played very well. Still not the free-scoring, run-flowing Sachin, but glimmers of the old Sachin were shining through. A little more support, and there will be a complete turnaround.

Lets hope to see that in the warm-up game.

I hope the indian board preserves some dignity and wont treat him like Ganguly. And with all due respect, some indian fans are totally fanatics. I was shocked to see footage of Dravid's photos and posters being burned in public. What a sentimentalism.

Two months since I opened this thread, I have to admit (having seen him bat over 10 times - limited overs cricket which has been his forte in the last five years) that I have seen nothing to back up the optimism I had.

He's gone.

He went a good few years ago though Miles. I remember a conversation we had on a similar thread in 2004 (or was it 2005?), when we went through his recent innings, and apart from a big score (generally in benign conditions) every so often, his returns were pretty mediocre.

I am still optimistic. He never got to make a complete come back...injuries kept coming. I am sure he will be back to form soon.
