The Champion Rabbit

With an astounding average of 2 and a bit runs over 38 tests New Zealand's Chris Martin can probably file a claim to be the greatest batting rabbit in history, at least at test level. There have been others close, notably India's B S Chandrasekhar who averaged 4 runs for his 58 tests. Any more contributions?

Not too sure if anyone can challenge Martin with the bat.

I will also admit that I've seen no less than 3 (possibly more if I can remember) Chris Martin first ball dismissals 'Live' in action.

He's on the improve (as if that would take much) I believe he hit his first ever test boundary during the Bangladesh series and also gained his first ever double digit score even if it was only against Bangladesh.

HE'll msot certainly end his career with more wickets than runs though you would think.

An honourable mention for the uber-bunnie Ed Giddins. The man who brought up the rear in the infamous Irani, Caddick, Tuffnell, Mullally lower order for the 1999 Oval debacle. His test batting average of 2.5 is almost as flattering as his bowling average of 20.

Interesting topic. I agree that Martin is the worst test batsman of the current era. However I do feel sorry for him but I did read somewhere that NZ investigated as to why he is so poor with the bat and they discovered that he has a problem with his eyesight. I cannot remember the exact details but I know that he only picked up the ball when it was right in front of him. That will explain why he backs away and plays his shots (if he has any) so late. I am not sure if his condition can be rectified. Maybe it has and that may explain why he manged to score double figures recently.

What's the collective noun for lots of rabbits? Anyway.. the best collection of rabbits to have appeared on the same scorecard would presumably involve 3 of Malcolm, Tufnell, Mullally and Giddens - I'm pretty sure England played three of those players together, in one combination or another, on a number of occasions... though I'd be hard pressed to say which combination was weakest!
