India vs South Africa, 3rd Test - Green Park, Kanpur, 11-15 April, 2008

Well, no one seems to be discussing it, but the current Test looks like being a great one- India 23 in front at stumps, with Steyn and Morkel in the wickets. This is what Test cricket is all about.

Yeah, looked for a thread yesterday, didnt seem to be one, no point starting as they are 2 days in (and 2 innings)..

Evenly poised, India batting last but SA only have Harris for some spin (maybe Smith/Amla), he is nothing special really. Although in saying that, was some definite variable bounce from Steyn late on day 2.

I see India pulling through, bowling them out cheaply tomorrow for about 200 and chasing down, albeit with some lost wickets.

I think Harris is all right. At least he tends to throw it up and give it a bit of a rip without going for too many, and picks up the odd wicket here and there- certainly, I think he got a few to turn sharply today, and picking up 2-90 odd is a fair effort agaisnt India at home. I think he should definitely be given an extended run in the side, as I rate him more highly than either Pieterson or Botha, and playing just the four quicks simply doesn't work.

True, i also rate him much more than Peterson + Botha, but dont really see him as a big wicket taker.

Same sort of problem as the Windies in regard of a top spinner, they either dont produce many or simply give them a run in the side.

Yea i agree a spinner is needed in almost every intl side, as the balance is key. Guess he has had a good series, depends if he can continue this through though. Wonder if he will be selected to face England this summer on some greenish tops.

Speaking of SA spinners, whatever happened to Paul Adams? Remember him having an unorthodox action, he played a fair handful of tests too.

Anything more than 100 for India to chase in the last innings will be impossible on this track and against this SA bowling attack. India's best chance is to bowl South Africa out for around 100, otherwise I see SA comfortably winning this match. The way India lost to SA in the final test (against Harris in particular) last year in South Africa, makes me believe that Harris (a pretty ordinary bowler in my opinion) will play a big role in India's second innings.

India need to score 62 to win the match and square the series. With the pitch behaving the way it is and India's record against left arm spinners, I would still have SA as the favourites. Sehwag is India's only hope. If he gets going then India will win comfortably. Otherwise....

so far so good for india but they still need to pass the final hurdle that is of scoring those 60 odd runs without any drama

India winning this one comfortably. I am sure because of your prediction. India lost the last match only because you did not predict India losing the match.

I still can not see why the SA coach called the pitch a shocker. There is enough for the pacers and the spinners bit if you apply yourself, you can score runs as well. Its a good test match pitch.
