As for punishment, well there won't be any punishment but had it been an Aussie or an Englishman he would have been banned and/or jailed.
I can very well imagine what kind of special treatment the cricketers must have been given in Indian airports. Their wallets were probably never checked. However, I find it difficult to imagine that someone keeps drugs in his wallet and forgets completely about it.

BTW a Pakistan daily has reported that test results showed the substance to be Hashish.

Just an innocent joint stuck in his wallet in case of an emergency I pressume.

May be if there was a big rain delay or a boring long batting partnership during a match he was going to sneak behind the change rooms and smoke it.

Sounds a bit like Andrew Johns (Australian Rugby League star) and the long forgotten ecstacy tablet found in his pocket.

Same defence "How did that get there" or I experimented with it years ago and "forgot I still had it"

Luckily for him he wasn't in Singapore! Then punishment wouldn't have been an issue.

I'm surprised no one's tried the "I'm being framed" defence.

Latest update: Its been confirmed that he was in fact carrying illegal drugs. He will be appearing in front of a magistrate and then its is being speculated that he will be deported back to Pakistan...but he has a few more days to spend in detention in Dubai.

It will be interesting to see if the Pakistani law enforcement agencies or the PCB take any action against him since the crime is now proved.
