There's certainly no balance. We have a top order who don't score enough runs on a regular basis. We have a number three who I don't believe deserves his position. Numbers six and seven probably shouldn't be batting where they are on current form. Ambrose's place must be in serious jeopardy.

Would Harmison have bowled a full length? If so then great but we've seen very little of him doing that for a long time. Morkel got most of his wickets pitching it up, only Monty got out to a shorter ball.

I am not looking forward to us batting on this track especially the likes of Amla.
It could be Englands day by 6.30.

Very pessimistic views from you on a regular basis John

Enjoy the positives! Bowled England for just over 200, your game to lose from now on, as long as you bat sensibly (and get some luck)

All eyes on Pattinson eh

Only Pietersen would get in on merit IMO, the rest Lords apart are ordinary at best.

To be fair to Flintoff and Broad, yet again the top order let down the middle and lower middle order - like in Australia 2006.
Ambrose though unlucky today batting hours before he should have done - should IMO be replaced by Mustard or Prior as soon as possible.

I don't think harmison would have been any more of a gamble than the side Moores/Miller have hoisted on us - he is tall and fast, England could have done worse.
I know little about Pattinson - but it seems he bowls at 89-84 MPH - Harmy must have been the better bet IMO.

Do you really believe that?, Even with Flintoff back - that's a tall order.

I think John that England after their one innings of glory at Lords, have it seems reverted to type - inconsistent.

No swing apparently, after Anderson and Pattinson's first 5 overs. Hoggy would've made it swing.

Oh dear.

steyn and morkel looked dangerous on indian pitches...they had to be dangerous on pitches offering swing and bounce. i would believe south africans will win from here. the last couple of days in lords worked like a tonic reviving these guys who looked morbid after the first 3 days.

John as usual is his pessimistic self!!! Saffers have england on the mat here and would have to play real silly or have to be unfortunate to lose the match from here. This match gives me a sense of deja vu...2nd test India vs England 2007 at trent bridge...england 198 all out first innings and india went on to win that one.

Pattinson looks innocuous to say the least. 3-0-16-0

Good decision from the selectors.

Flintoff coming on. The driving force behind the Pattinson selection may be solved as Vaughan doesn't seem to have too much faith in him!!

Well maybe, Harmison would have got bounce. And now Flintoff has come on to bowl - the sun has come out.

Pattinson 3 overs for 16 runs.

Vaughan rated the new guy so much he takes him off after 3 overs.Bet he wished he had got Hoggard now.

Good luck Freddie.
