World XI - 1980 onwards - Spinners Poll

We are now picking 2 spinners, this will probably be the easiest of all the polls we will have. The choices are;

Warne (Australia)
Mularithiran (Sri Lanka)
Qadir (Pakistan)
Kumble (India)
Underwood (England)

I will make it a multiple choice poll but as we are picking 2 from 5 I would suggest we go straight to picking the final two we would select.

Isn't this going to be the easiest of all selections??

Despite reservations about his action I have to go with Murali and Warne is the greatest leggie ever.

The only problem if we end up picking an 11 is whether you go with 2 spinners or 1.If it is a squad we pick then naturally both get in but the arguments over who should get in if only 1 is selected could be tasty.

The original thread went with 2 spinners, 2 pace bowlers and a fast bowling all-rounder as the 5 man attack. So I think that will avoid the arguement.

I've gone with Warne and Murali, like everyone else.

Poor old Anil Kumble, 613 test wickets and not one vote! A man who kept Narendra Hirwani out of the Indian side deserves so much more.

Yes, and if this was Greatest Indian XI he'd be a shoe-in, but he can't really take a place away from either Warne or Murali, surely?

What does surprise me is Qadir getting a vote instead of Kumble, when his away average is 47!

I have great respect for Kumble as a person, as a captain, and a bowler, but I didn't vote for him as he is undeniably a distant third behind Warne and Murali. I think this poll was almost a no-brainer and we had to vote more for formality sake. It is surprising that Qadir got one vote though and not Kumble, but it doesn't diminish his accomplishments in anyway.

Maybe in retrospect we should have picked just four bowlers to avoid the monotony of this particular thread. Ah well- if we'd done that the results would probably still have been the same.

It is interesting that four of us haven't picked Murali. Is that purely down to question marks over his action?
