Chandrasekhar, Prasanna, Subhash Gupte (who Sobers rates as the best leg spinner), Vinoo Mankad all should be in the list. I am surprised at their exclusion.

A couple of spinners who played only in domestic cricket in India (Goel, Shivalkar to name two) in the 60s and 70s were far better than some of the ones listed here. They could not play test cricket simply because of the existence of Bedi, Chandra and Prasanna.

Shane Warne Definately.... he shoots his mouth off but backs it up with sterling performences everytime.. Australia will have a hard time when he and Mcgrath retire... they will lose their edge

The best spinner is Gupte who played for India long ago.He is nearly unplayble and is even better than Warne. Not just me saying it,even Vivian Richards.

Shane Warne must be the best ever, followed by Bishem Bedi, and not far behind if indeed at all, D Underwood.

It is obvious you are English Ernest, well,so am I but I am not one eyed, you obviously are.
How you can talk in the same breath about Warne and Underwood is beyond comprehension,I know Underwood was a very good bowler but that is as far as the accolades go.I have watched cricket since 1939 both in England and Australia, where I have lived since 1967,and I have seen most of the best bowlers in the world, and honestly Ernest,I don't rank Underwood in the top ten, yes,TEN spin bowlers I have seen,I dont even rank him above either Johnny Wardle,Tony Lock Doug Wright or Jim Laker in England.
Please do me a favour, dont talk about Underwood in the same breath as players like Warne,Muralitheran,Bedi,Gupta Ramadin,Kumble, etc. he isn't in the same league, it's like putting Chelsea in division 1.

Whatever your answer to this will be,I'm certain more millions will agree with me than with you(apart from poms).

I don't know what your problem is, I rated Warne and Bedi over Underwood.

But did you ever see Underwood play?,the standard of Batting was much better when he played for England.

Underwood could dry up an end on the most unhelpful of pitches, batsmen had the sence to play him out, and score at the other end.

Oh an by the way, both Lock and Laker were Poms, so I don't get this (apart from poms).

On a good wicket, Underwood IMO was better than Murali, and on a good wicket was as effective as Kumble.

All the spin bowlers who have feasted against England, where playing one of the poorest sides, with the exception of the minnows.

The batting the world over has gone poorer, so a comparason can not be made accuratly.

Murali in the past would have been a better bowler than he is now. The only reason players around the world can pick him out of the hand is due to them having footage of him bowling and learning the small change in his action for his different deliveries. Back when players like Underwood were around the batsman did not have that luxeury. also the pitches these days are more suited to batsman

Can you imagine the impact Murali would have had on uncovered wickets? At his pace he'd have been devastating!

Sobers, and not Richards rates Gupte as the best spin bowler.
