I wonder what will happen if Jones gets injured? Will they just bung Trescothick the gloves because Fletcher is obviously so loathe to let Read see the Aussies.

I said its a bold move because of the fact darkside has just highlighted below... long tail for england.. now that is saying the coach has a lot of confidence in his specialist batsmen.. and that is bold. Im not sure i agree with the timing of all this though... i think Fletcher has bee na bit confused and showing it in his statements and actions since England landed in Aus.

LOL at Flintoff being in the tail.
I couldn't agree more!

What's more, most of the tail can't bowl at the moment.

Missed Chances

Seems the boy Jones missed an easy stumping off Monty today and Strauss put a chance down off him as well is this a ploy to edge Monty out and play Giles as he has taken more wickets in the game. If England are to play 2 spinners Read should be playing nothing Jones has done since he was dropped from the test side has shown his batting is back to what it was 2 years ago

Like he did in the warm up match with NSW CC, Panesar bowled 32 over, while Flintoff bowled 19 overs, yes I see what you mean .

Strauss has not always been the best of catchers, however to be fair to jones - he did score 13 in the game against NSW .

Welcome to the board sambino.

Yes, Jones's swashbuckling 13 was surely a highlight.
It more than made up for his depriving Monty of a wicket with yet another missed stumping.
He doesn't have a great track record with stumpings. Only the Bangladesh keeper is statistically worse.

5 stumpings in 31 tests: Jones. ENG
35 stumpings in 85 tests: Gilchrist. AUS
8 stumpings in 41 tests: Mashud. BAN
9 stumpings in 13 tests: Dhoni. IND
5 stumpings in 23 tests: McCullum. NZ
16 stumpings in 28 tests: Akmal. PAK
20 stumpings in 62 tests: Sangakarra. SRI

I haven't included SA's Boucher, because I don't think he's been keeper all that long, compared to the 92 tests he's played (14 stumpings.) I can't remember who the SA keeper was before him.

I'm no defender of Jones... but the number of stumpings taken by a 'keeper is more dependent on the number of opportunities created by the bowler than by the quality of the wicket-keeper!

Stats don't really hep with glovework... and the only one that means anything is rarely recorded (being missed chances as a proportion of total chances). That said.. even that hides as much as it reveals (as missing sitters and taking blinders is common enough).

Very true and he has had Giles as his spinner for most of his career so he has no chance unless it is a legside stumping.
