Gibbs_Fn I'm not sure if you watched Lee bowl but comparing him to Harmison's proformance is rediculous... Remembering also that Lee had a laceration above the knee.

Everyone's welcome to keep understimating this guy but if he was'nt worth the space then he would'nt be there.

After Lee's 5th over cricinfo's text commentator wrote "Lee not looking that threatening. Warne might be brought on before too long just to see if he can get any joy from this pitch". Five balls into Lee's next over he notes "Lee is right to be testing Strauss with the short ball, but it has to be there for the hook. His bouncers today so far have been too short".

Lee didn't get carted in his first spell... but he wasted most of his deliveries and wasted the new ball. Clarke is equally "straight up and down" but has done far better... and in this second session Lee is bowling tripe so far... allowing England to finally break the shackles.

ps. interesting comment from one Aussie summariser on TMS: this pitch is likely to reward seamers who can bowl a steady diet of leg-cutters on days 4 and 5... which should suit McGrath... and would have suited Lewis had England been sensible enough to pich him... but what's the odds on Lee thriving in that fashion?

Edit: from TMS summariser... something along the lines of "Lee's been unable to maintain the pressure... he's been the one to release the tourniquet... so they are turning to Michael Clarke".

Lee has looked poor so far in the series. Not that i expected any more from him than he is doing though as he supposedly had a good series in England but still had a diabolical average.Devon Malcolm eat your heart out.

Beny, your loyalty to Lee is admirable - you have been standing up for him since i joined this board in 2004. But as i have said many times, sheer pace does not cut it at the highest level. While i am sure he would do quite well in Sydney grade cricket, he is jam for money against quality batsmen on test wickets, always has been and always will.
He las lost Australia many games but has rarely won many for us (with the ball in any case) But the guy puts in 100% each and every game he plays and that has to be respected.
