Monty is IMO better not bowling on this pitch - in fact I would not have played Giles, not really a finger spinners pitch.

Solid accurate seam bowling is he order of the day me thinks.

There is a big difference though between this match and the 2nd Test at Edgbaston, in 2005 after being 1-0 down they came out and attacked and plundered 400 runs in the first day.

Strauss out for 14, gives his wicket away once again, very poor shot.

Yes and all these calls for him to take Flintoff's role as captain, three out of three consecative bad shots to get his out is it?. he's supposed to be a thinking man - I have some advice for Strauss - think how to keep at the crease.

Well going by form todate, if Vaughan does come back into the side Strauss must be the one that would be making way for him.

Well we are about to start again!! I should just remind you that only 1 player on either side got past 100 twice in the last ashes series. That was Strauss so I don't think we should be too critical. The only complaint I have about Freddy as captain is that its just too big a work load. It doesn't have to be Strauss. Any one else will do.
As far the non selection of Monty goes I really don't understand it.

Perhaps Ern can give me a reasonable explaination but I very much doubt it. In sport decisions are made which I may not agree with but at least I understand.

To my mind Monty's ommission is frankly absurd.

Cook is out - really should play a fast medium better than this, Clarke should have been most dangerous later in the match.

Clarke has been bowling a good line, but he has been allowed to.
