Both sides had a good day really, England started slow with some fine accurate bowling from Clarke, otherwise the score could have been of Edgbaston proportions.

It was a good days cricket, the difference to 2005 John was that England attacked from the first delivery, and made 400 that day.

But they also got bowled out in a day, tommorow we can come back with 7 wickets in hand and build a bigger score than 400.

In the last Ashes we played at Adelaide we scored 342 (thanks mainly to Vaughan's 177) and still lost by an innings!!

http://uk.cricinfo.com/db/ARCHIVE/20...25NOV2002.html

So we need to get to 450-500 minimum, and today was all about building that platform.

Precisely Ern Had the Aussies listened to you, and played Tait/Johnson instead of Clark, England would probably have been 380/8 at close... or something like that.

Anyway, that proves one thing - selectors should never do what die-hard supporters of the opposition want them to do!

I must admit Lee looked dodgy today. Don't understand what Langer was trying to do with the Bell dismissal. Probably a Englishman in disguise

Little up Collingwood.

How can I put a negative spin on that innings?

I've a few ideas up my sleeve.

The irritating thing is I'm off to Germany tonight, where my girlfriend will not countenance the thought of my staying up and listening to the live feed over the internet.

I won't know how the match has progressed until I buy an Englische Zeitung on Sunday night at the airport.
Goodness knows what the state of play will be by then. I'm even going to miss the North London derby, and that really hurts. Not that Spurs will win or anything... wouldn't like to put the mouth on anyone.

Come on Collingwood, don't throw it away like those other three useless gits. See off the new ball, knacker out the Australian bowlers, make a really big score to truly rub my nose in the dirt, and when they're down on their knees (like we were in Brisbane) let Flintoff have a go too.

But I wouldn't like to put the mouth on anyone.

Alternative scoreboard - England 320 all out, after losing early wickets tomorrow morning.

That would be a total disaster. We must make at least four-fifty.

Unbelievable selection mistake playing a injured 36 year pace bowler.

But that aside my Englishman "Bell" set the tone with another guts and blood performance ( I cant believe you folk dont rate him )

And the the "Dads Army" perception of the Australian team is alive and kicking better than ever.

My choice for a clean slate of selectors.

Ian Chappell
Mark Waugh
Jeff Thomson

I am sorry but the Hilditch, Hughes and Boon team is still tainted with the Hohns/Buchanan brush and Australian cricket needs a total departure from that.

I think you will find that Rachael and I rate him very highly, and are not surprised at all that he is starting to deliver. Just needs to go on and build a very very big score..

I rate Bell very highly too. I was not unreasonably browned off that he holed out in one of those dreadful Brett Lee overs when he'd already cracked two boundaries.

Just got greedy I suppose. But that's no excuse.

It would be nice to see England bat through two consecutive sessions without losing a wicket.
Can't remember when that last happened.
