Could be though Maranello that tait and Johnson would have been very handy in Englands second innings if the bounce is variable - and the ball keeping low.
But Clarke bowled well - we might get him back like G O jones - his parents are English.

It proved me right over not playing two spinners though

I am severely hoping that the scoring of 2 runs tomorrow will be vital in your assessment, plus another 50-100 for good measure!

Colly,

I think you are 100% right, a hundred in an Ashes Test would be a great achievement, but England need him and KP to be there at Lunch with another 100+ on the board.

Both Colly and KP need to be looking to make big hundreds and really put the Aussies under the kosh, in the same way they did to us in Brisbane...

Very much so as realistically I cant see Freddie, gilo and Jones scoring 100 between them. SO good as colly and KP are playing, they need quite a few more runs to get us to a par score.

Two runs will definitely NOT be enough!

When they should really be thinking: "if I make a hundred the team will be in a much better place but it won't quite be good enough, however if I make two hundred, everything in the garden will indeed be rosey and perhaps I will have cemented my place for the coming year."

I will probably have to write that one out in full again next year. I think people keep missing (or mislaying) the point.

If you agree that a batsman is only as good as his last innings, then obtusely you could agree with the fact that today Collingwood scored 98. If he scores only two tomorrow, that would be poor.

Ha-haaaagh Negative spin.

Good finish to the day for England. Once KP arrived the tempo picked up as it needed to. Good to see Colly silencing some of his detractors (I cannot moan about knocks like these!). Shame on Belly, he had a ton there for the taking. And KP tried to mess the day up on the penultimate delivery! How often do Warne AND McGrath bowl for an entire day and emerge wicketless? The job's not done yet.

Wonder what Giles will get out of this wicket? Really disappointed not to see Monty playing, again. I'm sure all those runs Giles will score will be crucial.

"kocks" = England detractors, like me?

Yes, regarding Giles and Panesar; I suspect that as long as the Ashes are in the balance Panesar will not get a game.

I hope I'm wrong.

But Fletcher continues to prove what a stubborn and unimaginative git he is.
