At last: Russell's input paying off - and well done Geraint!

Well.. on a day when Mr "too slow" Hoggard made exemplary use of the 1st and 2nd new balls (winning commendation from all and sundry, including Boycott, and outbowling all three of his faster colleagues*)... we also saw signs that England have finally started waking up tactically:

This is a tactic I've been advocating for several years.... and seem to have reaped rewards with Martyn:

Of course... my theme has been training up and Anderson to make use of the added pressure a gloveman can bring to bear... but lo and behold:

* With Stuart Clark being the most impressive of the Aussie bowlers to date... the nonsense about needing pace on flat wickets has surely been shown up as what it is - bunk!

Did you see the delivery from Flintoff that got Langer out to start the rot (a real snorter)?, Flintoff made exemplary use of his pace would you not say?

Also with Harmison being on Line - he was unlucky not to find the edge more than once.

Also would you not say that Flintoff's captaincy in this game has been 'exemplary'?. his use of Hoggard surerly is the sign of a captain having great forsight for the game, following on from his win in India this display is the sure sign of a thinking captain - abetted by a fine display from Hoggard.

Hoggy bowled well today, and proved what a quality bowler he is (and why Erns comments that he shoud make way for Mahmood were so off the mark). He has come along way since his last visit to Oz, and has been England's best bowler (certainly the most consisitent) over the last few years.

But Harmison bowled well and with more luck could have had wickets and Flintoff was the same, so there is no reason to say that Pace doesn't get wickets!!

England have a real problem with Harmison. He is meant to be a strike bowler, he comes onto bowl in the fifteenith over. So when the next spell starts the ball is already thirty overs old. The whole bowling attack has to work round how will Harmison bowl? This has been a big advantage to Australia and might be quiet telling at the end of the series.
