Shape up, or ship out

That's been the news from India and SA today...

From: CNN

Niranjan Shah, secretary of the BCCI, says: "We can call back the non-performers if they continue to fail in South Africa. We'll wait till the first Test."

Vengsarkar on the other hand has a different point of view though: "They are here, and I think they are here for the tour, unless they are injured or are not available for selection. In that case we will call somebody else,"...

With the batting problems the Indians have been having, I don't think they need mixed signals like these...

He who laughs last...

Considering the statements made by 2 administrators, Lorgat for SA and Shah for India, guess who's having the last laugh.

I reckon its safe to say none of the Indians will be shipping out...

The second test is in 8 days in Durban. Expect steamy, hot, overcast conditions. Perhaps no grass on the pitch, but the atmospheric conditions may just suit the Indians better. And then history will be made again.

The Proteas need a new opening pair. Gibbs either needs to go, or bat lower down the order. Preferably 4. Hashim Amla can NOT bat at 3. He's badly exposed there. Kallis then? He'll just have to. But he is such a prima-donna lately, that he can probably do whatever he wants...

AB to open in tests? Why not. He's not afraid to take the bowlers on, and if he bats for 15 overs, the shine is gone and there's 60+ on the board. Makes is easier for the batsmen who follow... And he could "protect" Smith like he did in the final ODI...Because protection the man certainly needs....

Not sure exactly what the situation is with Steyn, but perhaps Alfonso Thomas will be a better option at Kingsmead.

I did say the Indians can "come back strongly"...But I never a expected a victory for them. No one did. Lets hope for SA's sake they shake off the shock and make some bold decisions.

Denial is NOT a river in Egypt...

I don't think India will have much trouble in the rest of the series.

2 uncapped players included in the Safrican line-up for the remaining 2 tests at Kingsmead and Newlands.

Left-arm spinner Paul Harris and Mornč Morkel. With the extra bounce and swing, these 2 tall men could just be what SA need to get out of the mire. But, Morkel is only on standby in case Steyn does not recover from his injury in time.

Paul Harris : Left arm spinners have had limited succes against India.I dont fancy this move much
Mornč Morkel : India did get a taste of Morkel. He seemed pretty useful with the bat for SA. may provide additional stability in lower middle order

Harris: Richard Pybus is his coach up north at the Titans. And he feels that one of Harris' strong points is that he's never intimidated by the reputation and name of a batsman. That's good. He gained a lot of experience at Warwickshire for instance, and is one of the top bowlers now on the domestic scene.

Morkel: I hope you don't mean his brother Albie who played in the first warm-up game against the Indians? Albie is the batsman, Mornč is the bowler. And not much of a batsman .

But, he is plenty quick and 2 weeks ago he got rid of Sehwag, Dravid and Tendulkar in a warm-up game.

I like the boy. He is aggresive, that's for sure, although he does not talk much. He just lets the ball do the talking...

I think that you are wrong here Wanderer. SA's problem was more to do with the batting than the bowling. Besides, are we finally going to drop Nel to accomodate Harris. If Steyn does not play, then Morkel must play. I really do like Morkel but I feel this may just be too early for the youngster. Remember that Steyn also promised much but failed to deliver in his first 2 tests (He has improved considerably since then). I would have liked to have seen Langeveldt in the team. Harris should play instead of Nel.

More seriously, the SA batting. specifically the openers. I really do feel that if SA lose this series, then Smith must go. Gibbs as always needs a kick up the backside. Perhaps they can cancel his contract just to give him a wake up call.

I would like to see Rudolph open the batting. For now, they should drop Gibbs because we cant drop the captain now can we. Kallis must stop telling the coach where HE wants to bat. He should play for the team (for once in his life) and bat 3. There is just no sense in sending Amla in at 3, unless of course the selectors are looking for another opportunity to kick him out of the side. Unfortunately this squad is far from ideal. I mean what the f*** is Adams doing in the squad. Langeveldt should have been in. Hall is a useless test player. The selectors could have gone with a Mckenzie or Ackerman to add some experience there. No Boeta please. I hope that his international career is over. He has been tried, tested and been found wanting.

here is my team, the ideal players in brackets:

1)Smith (de Villiers) I would kick Smith out of the country and put a zip on his mouth.
2)Rudolph
3)Kallis
4)deVilliers (Mckenzie or Ackerman) If of course we kicked Smith out and used deVilliers as opener
5)Prince
6)Amla
7)Boucher
8)Pollock
9)Harris
10)Ntini
11)Steyn/Morkel (Langeveldt) Nel can be deported with Smith to Australia, where trash talk is considered the norm.

I agree. But the bowling let the Proteas down BIG time too. Pollock was the only bowler who came out of the match with his reputation in tact. Ntini was about 30% below his norm (agreed by his bowling coach Vince Barnes), Nel was useless and Steyn's old problem re-surfaced. He's going to be our Bond/Akhtar. Injury prone.

True. But Smith won't go. Not till after the WC at least. And I am afraid Gibbs will stay too. Probably moved down the batting order. Lorgat is a stubborn man.

Did you see the morning papers? Adams is not even being considered for the Cobra's...Yes. For Kingsmead, Langeveldt would have been in shoe-in if I was a selector...

That ship has sailed... The selectors does exactly the OPPOSITE of what everybody else seem to be screaming out for...

Did you watch Inside Edge last night? Interesting views by Barry Richards and Ravi Shastri...And of course that now INFAMOUS piece of footage of Lorgat, Smith and Kallis, an extremely wake-up cameraman happen to catch on film...
