Oh I do respect him but not at whatever time he strarted the England collapse, to put it in perspective I rate him the same as Colly for running Bell out, and the umpire who was playing for Australia - and gave Harmison out .

Oh I don't whinge kenny - Australia are two up with 3 to play, England only have to win the next one - and Australia will then be under pressure ,3-2 to England.

This was the talk of the Staff Room today. Lots of very unhappy teachers.

Unbelievable stuff.

I don't think "full credit to Aus" as they did nothing special. It was our p-poor batting that let us down.

Giles adds batting depth does he? His contribution of 0 runs was fantastic. Giles adds fiedling skill? His drop of Ponting basically gifted Australia a way back in.
As for his bowling...

Can Panesar really be a much worse option?!

If Giles cant think of anything other than the leg stump line, Panesar will be a much better option.

Well my daughters a teacher - but she won't care - she don't like cricket, so she is happier than I at the moment.

England have always been a rubbish batting side, it was England SEAMERS that won the ashes for England in 2005, as for the spinners - we don't have any IMO.

In all my &&%^ years of watching cricket - I think this is thee pits, I thought I had seen it all.

You're right about the seamers Ern but I disagree about the spinners. Monty has impressed everyone who's seen him play in the last year. He's dismissed the best Asian players of spin either in their own backyard or on (normally) unhelpful English pitches. He has done stuff that most of us have never seen an English spinner do. Because of this we believe he's been worthy of a place against the Aussies. I don't, for a second, believe he would have bowled them out on his own but I suspect he might have created a little more interest than Giles has done. Even without turning the ball Monty can cause problems with drift and flight. That Monty has been igonred for a man who hadn't played for over a year and is less mobile than a concrete breezeblock is quite ridiculous IMO.

fair dinkum

It pains me to say,but we were beaten by far the better team.
We are playing away from home, with no Jones/Vaughan/Tres,and Gilo/Geraint/Harmy look past sell by date, this allied to strange team selection<didnt Monty get the worlds best batman in Mohammed Youssef out three times last year?>has resulted in the 2.0 score line.
The Aussies have in their team the worlds best bowler<ever?>in Warnie, and two of the top two batters<Ponting/Hussey>
Now for a rant,,,,,,,,,
The counties in England must be very proud in giving Aussies and seemingly any other nationalities a grounding in county cricket, leaving young English players on the sideline.
I have a vested interest in Glammy, but even though we are presently cr*p, at least its generally young Welsh lads giving it a go for the county, hopefully in years to come a policy which will be successful for Glammy and England.
PS Look out for a young lad called Tom Maynard next year.

I can't say I agree with that mate. The counties do exactly what they should be doing, not just for English cricket but for global cricket. In any case, English cricket and young English players benefit from having champions like Warne, Wasim Akram, Mushtaq Ahmed, Lehmann, Andy Flower etc ply their trade in front of two men and their dog week in, week out!

The problem here was not that England did not have enough good players - it was that they were not played or given a chance by the Coach! Young English players are sidelined by Fletcher - just ask Broad, Read, Mahmood and Panesar - not by the counties!
