Harmison's tour over...

Looks like Harmison's tour is over....

He bowled 21 overs for 99 in the day, none whatsoever in the session after lunch, and spent an equal amount of time in the pavilion as on the pitch [...] Harmison found neither end to be to his liking, and could barely bring himself to celebrate when did eventually break through in his second over after tea, trapping Australia's newest Test recruit, Adam Voges, lbw for 31.

In the aftermath of England's defeat at Adelaide, Duncan Fletcher insinuated that Harmison had only been included in that side as a precaution, in case England lost the toss and were asked to bowl first. There is no room for such equivocation now, however, with the series teetering on the brink, and Anderson's return to form was as timely for him as it was intriguing for the selectors.

Finding extra pace and carry from the Lillee-Marsh End, Anderson bowled nine overs for nine runs in the morning, and a further seven for ten after lunch. He grabbed a wicket on each occasion, dismissing David Bandy for 5 and Rogers for 66, both caught behind by Chris Read. After tea he returned with the new ball and held a sharp caught-and-bowled to remove Brett Dorey.

Prior to today's game I suspect the management were still open to persuasion... but if Anderson's found form and Harmison's gone backwards that decision has been made for them.

Had England been just 1-0 down with three to play I suspect they would have reacted to today's performances by announcing Flintoff, Hoggard, Anderson and Panesar as a four man attack (with Pietersen to be used to get through 8-10 overs a day) but chasing the series from 2-0 down with three to play... Mahmood seems an inevitable inclusion.

Harmi

Is he carrying an injury ? looks like he is bowling like when he made his test debut. Seems to be something wrong with team spirit if Monty is getting wound up. Id play Freddie Monty Jimmy Saj and Gilo in next test

The reason for Harmison demise is that he has no good bowling coach to sort out his action when he is in bad from. Troy Cooley did wonders for him, Kevin Shine seems to do nothing with our bowlers.

Indeed. Perhaps Kevin's surname contains a spelling mistake...

Giles and Harmison need to replaced for the next test. If Harmison keeps his place, then there is something seriously wrong with the selection policy.

From what I have read in the press it would appear that Harmisons tour is over (and possibly his career). To be honest we cant afford to carry any passengers with the way things are at the moment, so along with Giles it looks as though Harmison has to go (its a shame as I am a big fan of his).

Hopefully Anderson can carry this form into the test because if he does and Flintoff and Hoggy bowl well it gives us a chance of taking 20 wickets, something we have not looked like doing so far.

I hope it is over if he is bowling like a prat.Maybe not only his tour but his international career because he has only had 1 good game since Lords 2005.I didn't think at the start of the tour i would be praying for Mahmood to play instead of Harmison.

Coachs

I heard Lille offered to help if so Harmi should pay his own far to meet him. Botham is out there with Sky Harmi should seek him out asap trouble with this current bunch is they dont like to talk to or listen to older players views, Bedi rates monty so if someone of his class rates Monty then he must be ok same with read Rod Marsh rates him so with his pedigree he must be not bad as Aussies wont give praise to anyone not up to the job

I think it is more mental than physical. Once he gets his head right everything else will fall into place. There was a lot in the press that Holding was going to sort him out but Holding said that was a lot of rubbish. Lillee has picked up on something wrong with Flintoff's bowling, about his foot being splayed when bowling.
