Who said Monty couldn't bat? Must have been a rumour put around by Giles' PR manager

This makes the choice of Giles for the first 2 tests look even more silly as Monty has got the runs that they needed from Giles.

These runs Monty is making are really making a mockery of his nonselection for the first 2 matches. This is the biggest partnership of the innings.

The question is, is the pitch playing easier or have the other batsmen just thrown their wickets away?

That is a good point. How often though after a tail wags do the bowlers come out and get a couple of quick wickets. We certainly need that to happen here.

215 is more than we could have hoped for at lunch.

The ball was 64 overs old so would have soften up alot which would have made batting easier.

England will come up with there tails up after there tail wagging like that, Give Harmison and Monty the ball - they are doing it all at the moment

This Partnership was 40 runs worth.. Englands highest

So true about Giles.... Monty has proved all his fans right... by bowling and batting 100 times better than Giles.

215 is not that bad... considering how England's top order collapsed

Give Harmison the new ball with Hoggy and as soon as Hoggy gets his bunny they can stick Monty on.

Sounds easy, but it won't be.Gut feeling is Hayden will get a score this innings as Australia cruise past 300.

The big thing is England cant let Australia off to a flyer and allow them to be 0/50 off 10-15 overs - Australia's openers will come out and try and dominate and smash the attack.

England not only needs to take wickets they need to stop the easy 4's.

Very important session but you get the feeling Australia will have to play badly to lose this. Twenty nine runs lead in this context with Warne bowling in the fourth innings is important.
Hoggard flies in. Langer gone.
