BBC Disgrace

Having watched the BBC coverage of the ashes and pressed the "red button" I am amazed at how even handed our coverage is.

The BBC seems to being going out of its way to be fair to both sides.

From what I've heard this would never happen in Australia. Looking at the last test at Sydney in 1986/7 Auatralia won courtesy of some extremely friendly home town decisions.More than that it seems the Aussie umps did everything they could to ensure an aussie win.

The best advert for neutral umps I've ever seen.

In short do the Aussie TV ever show us doing anything right?

I'm having to watch Channel 9 at the moment. Tony Greig is the only counter-point to the Aussie worshipping home commentary team.

Add to that Mark Nicholas seems to be the new Peter Roebuck. He is virtually orgasming at every Australian shot, no matter how bland.

The most neutral take, as always, can be found from Richie Benaud.

Yeah, most of the channel nine commentators don't even try to be even handed. Ian Healy is the worst is'nt he. He even giggles when England make a mistake. I think Ian Chappel has been very fair though.

Well, Chappell's criticism of the English players when it has come along has at least been constructive!

Healy isn't the worst IMO... Interestingly, I think it's Slater! When I used to listen to him on Channel 4 in the last Ashes he seemed quite balanced, but on Channel 9... well, its like listening to a different person.

Ian Chappell has made the valid point that England have bowled well today and created opportunities but those chances and half chances haven't been taken. Since day 1 Flintoff has only used one or two slips while the general consensus amongst the commentators is that the most likely mode of dismissal is caught in the slips because of the extra bounce. Today, we've seen Hoggard and Harmison edged through the slips. Those opportunities would've been taken had the slips been there.

The scoreboard at the WACA has just put up "Tomorrow Australia win back the Ashes" (I can only assume regain was too longer word for them )

Even the scorers are at it!!

We really must remember this for next time.

God I hate Mark Nicholas, he's so wannabe Australian.
