Pretty good batting from Hayden; he's had a few close shaves but he's generally watched the ball very well and respected the good deliveries.

The wicket and conditions are taylor made for English seamers. This is the first and last time for this series that they will get such English-like conditions. To waste such an oppurtunity by bowling spin would be a waste IMO.

Ok, Flintoff has now gone out of his way to take Monty out of the attack here - unless he is swinging him around - but the reason for the amount of runs scored off him where due to Flintoff's field placings and not poor bowling.

I take your point Seamer but if you bring him on you must give him the right field musn't you?

Should a bolwer not bowl to his field?, also I think bowlers in the main pick their own fields.
This was the case before lunch when Harmison despite Strauss's reservations (when Flintoff was off the field), decided to move his on side fielder near the boundry.

I hope he brings Panasar on. Panasar vs Symonds is a good battle - has worked well for England too. Hoggie's looking tired - we might get our wish and see Panasar soon.

Well if monty wanted that field then he's wrong and the skip should have over ruled him. The net result is that the initiative won in the morning session has been handed back without a fight. If he hits us over the top thats one thing but to let him get in by milking us is really just not on Ern.

When the captain sets a field that gives an easy single every bowl, how do you bowl to it - the field placings where incorrect.

You do not give a batsman who is struggling and easy run every ball - the fielders should have been in - all Flintoff has done now is played Symonds in by his field placing and over bowling Hoggard.

I agree that this tactic of setting the fielders deep and allowing the easy single is quite rediculous considering the situation of the match. Typical Flintoff - no wonder every bowler in the English team has an inferiority complex due to Flintoff continual lack of faith shown in them. Poor field placings, poor man-management.

Well done Symo! Come up with the goods when Aus really needed it. Hope you get your ton!
