| Just a little something else. A group of unruly fans, including some Pakistan fans were also thrown out out after the abuse slung at Harris... |

| As a follow-up, one of the few good things about oikball is the fact that over the last 20 or so years, clubs and countries have been held accountable, in part, for the behaviour of their fans, witness the ban on English clubs in Europe in the mid-late 80s etc etc. Should something similar be enforced in cricket ? |

| What's oikball? Whatever it is, I think it's a good idea! A week ago, the 2 biggest football clubs in SA had to play to empty stands because of unruly fans. I am sure the atmosphere was simply awful... |

| Oikball, thugball, scumball, commonball.......all more appropriate names for football in my book....... |

I hope that links works. Now, if you get it to work (it should be one of those youtube like links) you will hear someone or someones, you can't see who, say what I quoted earlier. But Gibbs has owned up to saying something and causing offence so based on that I assume it is he. In fact, I left out the bit about hyenas!! But it sounds like "f****ing animals" to me. But I can see how the misplacing of one "bloody" for one "f*****g" changes the statement from offensive (on whatever grounds you think) to totally innocent!! |

| Gibbs ban temporarily lifted. News24. Proteas batsman Herschelle Gibbs will probably be able to play in the second Test against Pakistan beginning in Port Elizabeth on Friday, after notifying the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday that he intended to appeal against his two-match ban. Chief executive of the South African Cricketers Association (Saca) Tony Irish said Gibbs would appeal again the ban on the basis that the finding was incorrect, and that implications that he had been racist in his remarks were not acceptable. "The ban will be lifted until the appeal is heard, which means he should be available for the second Test in Port Elizabeth, and maybe even the third Test," said Irish. He said the appeal would be conducted by the ICC, who would be represented by either a senior legal practitioner from any of the ICC member countries, or even by a legal committee. ********************************* This is something completely different, but I do not like what Smith said about the Pakistani fans...He's basically insinuating that ALL Pakistani fans around the world are the same (in his book, abusive/unruly). That's not on. Quote:

| England fans have had to accept that they have all been branded thugs for years. In fact, Norwich and Everton were banned from Europe purely due to 'England' international fans, Leeds and Liverpool fans. Nobody ever spoke out for the decent English fans that had no intention of getting drunk and going out for a fight on the continent. From my experience the small minority of Pakistan cricket fans have often been the worst to watch matches in this country. From the one day match in Birmingham in 1987 (I was there and it reminded me of a football match) to the disgraceful pitch invasions during the summer of 2001. This does not mean that all Pakistan fans are unruly, but it is clear that a minority of unruly individuals consistently follow Pakistan around. And something needs to be done about it. |
